Blenner's Apartment, Sunday Morning [6/17]

Jun 17, 2007 10:56

He'd never known such a quiet war. Yes, the fire roared as its flames ate London. Yes, the zeppelin thrummed overhead. But, there were no screams, no wails, no pounding heart beats ( Read more... )

Walter rarely dreamed, or if he did, he rarely remembered his dreams. Better to wake to something like his very own comfortably cool lover.

His eyelids flickered open for a moment as Vlad brushed his hair back before he closed them again.

"You of all people should know how to sleep late," he murmured, shifting closer against the vampire.

"I just like to keep you guessing. Can't have you getting bored, Angel."

Vlad nipped Walter's shoulder then rested his cheek against his hair.

"Mm... very kind of you." Walter smiled and found that spot that was their perfect fit together. Soon enough calls of nature, stomach, and nicotine would force him out of bed for at least a few minutes, but for now he was going to enjoy this.

"It will take more than a bit of extra sleep for me to be bored, though."

"I'm an inherently kind person. Didn't you know? One more miracle, and I'd have qualified for sainthood."

He spoke softly against Walter's ear and ran his fingernails up over his thigh.

"Vlad Dracula... patron saint of butlers."

Walter drew in a breath as goose bumps marched up his spine. "I do find there are moments when you make me do something quite like praying."

Vlad pressed a kiss to the base of Walter's neck.

"Angel mine."

The dream's details were fading fast as Vlad's attention became fixed on waking's reality.

Getting out of bed was growing less and less interesting.

"An angel for an almost saint?" Walter murmured to his pillow while he stretched his head to expose more of his nape.

"Mmm."

Vlad's tone suggested that 'yes' was the answer to Walter's question. He smiled against Walter's throat and pulled him close.

It was debatable whether it was bravery or foolhardiness that had Walter as comfortable as he was with Dracula at his throat.

Someone who knew him intimately would know it was addiction after a fashion. A cheap fix for his love of adrenaline.

If that had been all there was to his relationship with Vlad, there would be no relationship. Perhaps Alucard, unwilling and bound servant to the Hellsing family would accept it because he could have nothing else, but Vlad, free citizen would not.

Fortunate, then, for both of them that the minor adrenaline fix was just a pleasant side-effect.

One that had Walter shift until they were chest to chest and wrap his arms around his lover in a tight embrace.

Mine.

Yours.

Vlad made a contented sound as Walter's body heat began to seep into his own cool skin. He rested his forehead against Walter's and closed his eyes to listen to the steady thrum of his lover's heart.

Walter smiled in response to Vlad's sound and closed his own eyes, enjoying their silent communion.

After a time, he broke the silence. "Did you hear the church bells earlier?" It was Sunday morning, so church bells weren't shocking, but it had seemed quite early for it.

"I didn't hear any shouts or sounds of fighting, so I went back to sleep."

Vlad blinked.

"I... didn't."

How troubling odd.

"Have they sounded again?"

Walter opened his eyes. "You didn't?"

How troubling odd.

"I haven't heard them again. You woke me up."

Vlad smiled pushing away any worries about not having heard the church bells.

"I would apologize for that, but it would be insincere."

"And I wouldn't be sorry about it anyway," Walter said, tightening his arms around Vlad as a reminder.

"I wouldn't have slept this late if we hadn't been so occupied all night."

Vlad chuckled.

"Your Romanian is coming along nicely."
