Part Fourteen: "That kid. He never ceases to blow my mind, you know?"

Sep 29, 2011 09:21

Yes, Rose, we totally know! Luke Snyder: blowing people's minds with his awesomeness since 2001.

First of all, big ups to rhiannonhero, who has been editing all these old clips and uploading them for our enjoyment as we journey back to a time when this show could afford the rights to use ABBA music -- even if it was a Muzak instrumental of "The Winner Takes it All."

In this installment, Molly and Jake McKinnon celebrate what I imagine will be short-lived wedded bliss, Carly and Jack are angsty, Rose is rather useless in my estimation, and bb Luke tries to escape Dante's oily Euro clutches. It's not very hard, because Dante has not learned the first rule of kidnapping: snatch first, blather on later.

Now for this last clip, the sound is really low, so it's hard to make out. But peggin and her external speakers have come to the rescue. She's transcribed the scene after Luke enters.

Jack: Hey Luke, you feeling okay?

Luke: Yeah, I guess. I never got to say "thanks."

Jack: No, no problem at all. It must have been scary to see a man get shot to death. I know you've got a lot of crazy feelings going on right now, sometimes you're sad, sometimes you're angry, and if I made you scared or angry in any way, I--

Luke: It's not you. I'm not mad at you.

Lily: Sounds like you're mad at somebody.

Luke: It's me. I was so stupid the day of the wedding.

Holden: What do you mean?

Luke: You told me to tell you where I was going to be, and I didn't. It's my fault Dante found me. It's my fault that Jack had to shoot him.

Holden: Luke, Luke, you didn't do anything wrong here!

Lily: No, no, not at all. I mean, you are such a wonderful little boy. You're a little boy, but you're brave and you're as strong as anyone... none of this is your fault. No, not at all.

Jack: You've been really grown up lately, and that's great, you know, it's good to be responsible. You've had to worry about a lot of grown-up things, too. I miss Luke the kid, though. The kid who hates long division but loves baseball, and sometimes sneaks up behind me and jumps on my back even though he knows I hate it. The kid I knew before all this happened.

Then Jack starts tickling Luke and Luke starts laughing, and Jack is all "yeah, that's him, that's the kid," and then he tells Luke to stop worrying about bad guys coming to get them and he takes Luke to see the new security system Jack helped install in the house.

The volume has gotten worse by this point in the clip, and both Holden and Lily seem to be speaking extra quietly, so I'm less confident that I've gotten things exactly right, but this is the gist of the rest of the scene:

Lily: I knew he was having a hard time getting over all this, but I never in a million years thought he'd feel guilty about it.

Holden: It's like Jack said, he's a responsible little kid (a little bit of mumbling I can't make out at all). The fact is, none of it would have happened if he hadn't been Damian's son

Lily seems to agree.

Holden: There's something I can do about it. I can make it official; I can make it legal.

Lily: You want to adopt him?

Holden: Yeah. Yeah, I want to give him my name.

Lily (hugs Holden): Oh, yes, let's do that. Let's do that.

It's so amazing how in character Luke was throughout the show. Always blaming himself for the actions of douchebags!
