Another week has gone by since the last time we saw our boys, and Reid is just getting out of a 7 hour surgery. All he wants is to sleep, but Luke asks if he'll settle for a hot shower and a change of clothes. Reid still thinks he wants the sleep, "unless the shower's an open invitation."
Oh, Reid, if only!!! But, no, Luke reminds Reid they were supposed to go to Holden and Molly's wedding. And can I just take a moment here to squee over that? I mean, asking someone to be your plus one to your father's wedding is serious business! Luke wouldn't have invited him unless he was serious about the relationship.
And Luke makes it clear that he really does want Reid to go, but Reid insists he's not going and walks away. Boo, Reid! Boo!
Luke isn't letting it go, and Reid tells him that weddings aren't his thing. Luke asks who doesn't like weddings, and Reid raises his hand in reply. Luke, who has clearly been having all kinds of fantasies about getting married to Reid, isn't happy with this and interprets it as Reid saying he doesn't believe in love. Reid corrects him on that, insisting that he believes in love, just not in ceremonies, or in people making promises they can't really be sure they'll be able to keep.
Luke still won't give up on trying to convince Reid to come with him and reminds Reid that it would be their first time out together as a couple. Reid counters by offering to take Luke out for a nice dinner, where they could sit right in the middle of the restaurant where everyone could see them holding hands. Excuse me for a moment while I squee over that image!!!
Luke, however, isn't squeeing, he tells Reid not to be a jerk and asks Reid to just come for a couple of hours. He even tries convincing Reid it would give him a good chance to work on his people skills, "Mr. Soon-to-be-Chief of Staff."
Reid says his people skills are fine, and Luke tells him only with people who are under anesthesia. Reid then says, fine, he will work on his people skills, but not at the wedding, and leaves to go home and get some sleep.
Later, at the Snyder farm, we get to see Luke having a little family time. He gives Parker a fist bump, then gives Abigail a big hug, clearly very happy to see her, and takes a moment to chat with Carly and Molly.
(And now excuse me for a small rant. It really pisses me off, the way the writers just screwed Luke over, not just with what they did with Reid (which absolutely DID NOT HAPPEN), but in every respect. Particularly in the way we got so few scenes with him and his family, or with the way I'm not even sure he had any friends at all in the last year of the show. Hell, Will and Gwen were in town for ages, and I'm pretty sure he never saw them once. Grrrrrr. Stupid talentless hack writers! No wonder your show got canceled!.... Okay, enough of that. We now return you to your regularly scheduled recap!)
There's a little more chatting with Abigail, then Jack come in to introduce a little drama, involving the fact that Holden is in France, where he went running after Lily, but apparently he still plans to marry Molly, only they're not sure if he'll be back on time for the wedding.
Luke and Abigail then agree that "Love is way too complicated to deal with sometimes," and Reid walks through the door, asking if he's too early or too late. Yay! Reid came after all!
Abigail introduces herself to Reid, offering her hand and saying "You must be Noah." Reid responds with a weird high pitched laugh and corrects her, saying, "No, I'm Dr. Reid Oliver." Abigail seems momentarily embarrassed by her blunder, and Luke responds that there have been some changes in his life. (And again, I have to offer a momentary rant over the fact that the writers would have us believe that Luke hadn't spoken with his sister for at least six months. I'm sorry, I can buy that she might not have known anything about Luke starting to date Reid, but the idea that she didn't already know Luke wasn't with Noah anymore is just ridiculous to me.)
Luke seems unsure of how to explain his relationship with Reid. Reid tells him not to make things so complicated then holds out his hand and, when Luke takes it, pulls him over next to him as he tells Abigail, "Luke and I are together."
After that follows more boring discussion about what possible reason Holden could have had to follow his ex-wife to France on the day he was supposed to get married, this time with Reid asking the question. Luke and Abigail both respond that it's complicated. Then Molly comes down and joins in the discussion of the drama, saying she's not going to jump to any conclusions until she has a chance to speak with Holden, then changes the subject asking Dr. Oliver what he's doing there. Luke is clearly delighted to be able to tell her, "He's with me."
There's more talk about whether or not there's going to be a wedding, the most exciting part of which is the fact that Reid is sitting at the table with his arm around Luke.
Luke decides to try to call Holden again, and Reid takes the opportunity to go out on the porch and talk to Molly. They have a nice little conversation where he doesn't try to convince her that everything is going to be fine and comments on the love lives of the people in Oakdale, saying that they seem to change partners as often as he changes socks. Molly objects, saying not all of them, but then has to concede that, yeah, it's true of most of them. They share a laugh over that, and then talk a little more about how relationships don't always last, and how that very fact worked out well for both of them. The whole thing seems to cheer Molly up, and she goes back inside and asks Jack to pop open the sparkling cider.
Luke asks Reid what he said to cheer Molly up, and Reid tells him "Just that love sucks." When Luke seems less than thrilled but still amused by that answer, Reid points out that it worked, then says, "See? I told you I had people skills."
Luke smiles at him and shakes his head, then they raise their glasses as Molly offers a toast to coping when bad things happen.
