Douchey Moments in History

Welcome to another edition of Douchey Moments in History!

"This is my... Luke Snyder"
This is only a minorly douchey moment, in the sense of it not being outright mean or cruel or anything, but IMO it really illustrates something about Noah's character. Luke had moments earlier stood up to Noah's father and declared that he loved Noah. When Noah ( Read more... )

And once Luke and Noah started actually having sex, didn't Luke want to move in together, but Noah decided he didn't want to anymore? From what I remember, Luke kind of just assumed they would move into an apartment together, and Noah got angry. I'd have to re-watch it.

Noah didn't want Luke to move in because Luke just wasn't morally grounded enough to live with him. He was still recovering from being a bad person. He was amazingly lucky that Noah would once again actually take him back after such misbehavior ( ... )

What I keep noticing is when people talk about Noah's clear childish behavior, they always have to find an excuse.

You're not going to get that here! Here, we see the truth of things: there is no excuse for Noah's behavior; he acted that way because he was a douche!

It is true that, if I knew nothing else about Noah, and just watched the few clips surrounding any one time he acted like such an asshole, I could probably accept the excuses given by his apologists. But when you see how frequently Noah's behavior requires an apology, it becomes harder and harder to end the statement that starts with, "he only acted that way because..." with anything other than, "he's a total douche!"

I really hope you include the moment where he introduces Luke as his "special friend" to Ameera. It's totally normal for men in the Middle East to act that way. There are no PDAs between men and women, but between two men, it's normal. They hug and kiss in greeting and hold hands and link arms. There is no way in hell a sheltered Iraqi woman would have understood.

I don't think that's going to be one of my clips -- there are just SO MANY moments I could include, but the deadline for stories and vids for our challenge is December 19th, and I'd really like to try to get clips posted from their whole story at least up until the fireworks by then, so I have to be a little selective. If I was going to include every clip where Noah acted like a douche, I'd probably end up including 90% of the clips Noah ever appeared in.

I loved this rant. It made me laugh out loud, because really:

IT'S NEVER NOAH'S FAULT. That's the first bullet point in The Nuke Fandom Booklet.

I don't remember, but I'll let you know when I get to that point in my re-watch. I did just recently watch the clips around the time Holden had his affair with Carly, and Noah was all "let's get an apartment together." Luke told him that he'd love for them to get a place together, but for now he really felt like he needed to be with his mother and the younger kids. Noah SAID that he understood, then later in the same episode, he started in again with "let's get an apartment together." Thankfully, Luke had more of a backbone back then than he did in the post-fireworks stage of their relationship, and he stuck to his guns and said no, but god, Noah, did you ever once in your life think about anyone other than yourself?
