Don't worry. You'll no longer think of him as someone you like by the time it's over. Daniel Cosgrove might still be okay, though.
Re: costuming, they seriously don't have many costumes for their players. Like at all. Reid had like two shirts ever, and one shirt near the end. Luke went from several down to just one, too.
I could solve that costume crisis by having Reid and Luke wear just underwear (I'd have them naked except it is broadcast television). That would have saved the show tons of bucks, driven up ratings and helped avoid cancelation.
Daniel Cosgrove gets inexplicably unattractive during his time as Chris Hughes - his face puffs up and he gained like 30 pounds or something. Playing a douche infected him with ugliness, sad to say.
But surprise, he's on AMC now and he's cute again! It's the darndest thing.
Aw, that's sad. I actually was wondering at the time if he was physically ill . . . he certainly looked the part! ~LOL METHOD ACTING~
It's so rare that an actor will publicly acknowledge that they were less than stellar in their performance, it makes me admire him! Like you, I don't necessarily blame Cosgrove for Chris's douchiness; Chris has a storied history of douching it up around Oakdale, so it's not exactly a surprise that he was an entitled brat.
That's sad. I'm glad he's feeling better and I'm glad my Chris hatred didn't spill off onto future characters DC played.
I'm also glad to know that something was off with him on ATWT. Not that I'm happy about it but, while I didn't think he was bad on ATWT, I remembering thinking it was strange that he wasn't better or didn't try to add some more nuance. Luckily, he's good enough to get away with it. Instead of coming off as a bad actor, Chris just fell victim to the writing and came off as a total douche.
But last week I happened to catch him on AMC. I could tell he was feeling better.
I'd post the evidence but I'm at work. He was very very naked. Only a towel cover just the necessities.
But at the end of the day, I think the writing and characterization was the problem, not Daniel.
I agree. I admire him for admitting that he wasn't at his best, but I place the blame on the horrendous writing. Another issue was the complete lack of chemistry between Katie and Chris, but again I am not sure that would have been improved had he been in a better head space.
Interestingly, Noah was also written as a massive douche, but there was potential for better acting to make the character more complex/a tad less unlikeable. And perhaps another actor would have had more chemistry with Luke/Van.
