It's horrendous, isn't it!? I wish Reid had been there to deliever a "thanks to me you can see the door, use it" style smackdown for every one of Noah's douchey things. He'd have been MAAAAAD. I think you do an amazing job of capturing all the different levels of pissed off that Reid experiences as he learns about Noah's systematic horridness to Luke.
“I may not understand every situation between you and Noah, but even I, a lowly brain surgeon, know that he’s humiliating you!”
HA! I love that line. It's perfect, classic Reid, and I love the way that he finally snaps here. It's perfect. I'm using that word a lot, but it really is. In a funny way, I also love that they're fighting, because LuRe fights are awesome in how they resolve them, and cos they always say funny, snarky stuff like this.
“Look, Reid. I don’t know if this is a jealousy thing or what, but I need to be here for Noah. He’s had a really hard life and he deserves this. He needs someone to support him. So why don’t you just fly back home?”
Reid was so angry he wanted to cry. Instead, he turned his face into an emotionless mask. “Goodbye, Mr. Snyder. Enjoy the movie.”
That hurt, but I could totally picture it happening. Wow. Seriously. You are AMAZING. Such a stunning moment.
“Luke,” he started, but his voice was hoarse. He cleared his throat and tried again. “I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t be judging your relationship with Noah. Just...don’t leave. Please.”
And that's just...whoa. Because Reid Oliver has EVOLVED. Luke's gone and systematically dismantled his walls and his armour, and he loves him so damn much that he'll give him anything, even his pride. And you created that moment so wonderfully. And then you do this:
“I love you so much,” Luke whispered.
Reid scrambled off the couch, practically tripping over his own feet to get to Luke. He wrapped his arms around him as Luke cried, trying to keep up with the broken speech. His heart pounded in his chest.
And I love that the first thing Luke says, the most vitally important thing, even in the midst of this massive epiphany he's having, is "I love you". That's what he says. And it's awesome. And then my heart exploded in a giant supernova, and it was good.
Casey laughed across the line:
“By Jove, I think he’s got it!”
Lol. Casey rules!
“You publicly humiliated him with that movie of yours in front of hundreds of people.”
“You really think hundreds showed up?” Noah said.
Reid’s vision went red.
I think that says it all really. I love that at this point you let the words speak for themselves, cos a lot of this story was spelled out, and that worked really, really well for how you told it, but this was a time to avoid it, and you did, and it was...perfect. And Noah is a douche.
“Everything's perfect.”
Reid kissed him again, softly. "And Noah?"
"Noah, who?"
Reid chuckled. “Just what I want to hear.”
You and me both, Reid. You and me both. Hehe, loved it. :D
He opened the mental file in his mind and wrote something new.
Diagnosis: Noah was a douche.
And Luke was cured of him forever.
Hooray!! Hehe...even more awesome. Oh, I love it. This fic is genius. I love the premise, I love the style you write in, I love Reid's voice, the characterizations. I love it all. Brilliant. :D
