Writing around 20 pages in 48 hours is a really difficult task. I also think it's unfair for something like these take-away papers to count for 50% of my grade, since I never write papers like this, and I don't think professors would ever ask students to write 8 or 10 page papers the day before you hand them in. Even for the people that did a lot of revision, all the secondary sources in the world wouldn't help that much in formulating an argument for a paper that you don't know what the question was ahead of time. I've written about 12 pages since yesterday morning and have about 18 hours to write the last 1,500 word essay. I want to sleep so badly right now and coffee is making me ill.
Thank you, Matthew for your Chaucer notes, which have helped me a lot. I'm sure the paper is still completely awful though.
An excerpt from my decent essay on John Donne's poetry:
"Donne does not deal with this sexual body as complete whole; rather, he deals with it in sections, each section represented as new, unchartered territory, ripe for his own personal conquest. Donne begins his poem by comparing his waiting for the sexual act that is about to take place to an act of “labour” in itself, before introducing the metaphor of a war objector for his penis, stating, “The foe oft-times, having the foe in sight, / Is tir’d with standing though he never fight” (ln. 3-4). Donne expresses envy for the corset that covers his lover’s body, which I assume is to enforce the idea to any female readers / potential lovers that he is an extremely supportive individual."
P.S. I won a grilling / sandwich-making machine from the university paper. I made grilled cheese sandwiches last night, but most of the cheese melted all over the back of the machine, making it really difficult to clean up. I used to have one when I was in high school and I think this is the same reason I stopped using it then.
