A clear sign

...that Christmas is near is the increased rate of people you haven't seen for a while visiting out of the blue. Yesterday evening, just when hubby took his man-cold out to a concert, a former neighbour popped in. She was lucky- daughter did drive to the airport with a co-worker, so no need for me to get up at three in the morning. Former neighbour did not stay for long, but gone was my free evening. I gave her a cup of my self-made punch and cookies- strong booze and a sugar-high makes people drowsy, and she left after a good hour. One hour later husband was back- on the programme there's been Beethoven's Ninth only. So much about a stressless evening- sneezing and coughing was back in the living room. I made myself a cup of punch, too, and went to bed early.
Today I fixed the menue plan for Christmas Eve- better said, I tried to fix it while hubby already began to replan. I made another bottle of punch essence, almost tripped twice- not because of punch, but because hubby had already brought up all boxes with Christmas tree decorations he found in the basement and nicely arranged them all over the room- and hit my knee. Another guest was snowing in in the afternoon- a neighbour who had ordered bacon from hubby. Why do those people always show up when my household is at its worst? She was accompanied by another neighbour- the one who manages to drink a whole bottle of wine then wants a cup of coffee. And needs at least two shotguns of booze, before she's ready to leave. The lady is over eighty now. I wonder how she managed to live that long with such an intake of alcohol. I decided to do an impromptu shopping and left the ladies with hubby. Maybe his cold might scare them off. It worked, but only partially. The hard-drinking lady was still in the living room with a cup of coffee. At least I was able to skip the part with the wine. In case hubby had offered her any. Not so sure about it, because hubby does not like people drinking so much. The lady left at dusk, which comes very early now. I put the boxes with the Christmas baubles in the conservatory, finally found the items for decorating I had been looking for at the beginning of the Christmassy season and banned those back to the basement. Maybe they'll be allowed to shine next year. Hubby says that I could have found them if I'd looked hard enough- at the top of the cupboard? More likely not! Hubby bought the Christmas roses at Lidl today, to not have to do a stop at the garden centre in Graz. I understand- no time for such things. The trip to Graz is long enough- more than three hours one way. Maybe longer, depends on the traffic. With rain (or snow) and early dusk the trip will be not that much fun, but I will get a "free" meal at an inn...
I took another photo of the Wichtel doors, because there's a tiny improvement for the poor lads I have to feed cookies each day: Cassian was here last Sunday and discussed the topic of Wichtel in need of a loo- the gnome is too tiny to use ours. So when I went outside today to sweep in front of the entry door I found the tiny loo from our dolls' house next to the lantern. Thank you, Cassian, for providing a public Wichtel toilet!
