Force of habit

There are nights , when I sleep like a log, and there are nights I won´t. By this I do not think of the nights the alarm will go off at three in the morning, but ordinary nights, when sleep won´t claim me long enough, like today. So after two strolls to the loo (I was very bored then) I got up at three, turned the coffee maker on, got myself one of hubby´s cookies and picked up a book to read. Did so for almost an hour then went to bed again. The last thing I heard was the coffee maker shutting down. I finally woke at seven thirty, dressed in a hurry and rushed to the living room- where hubby was still sitting at the table having breakfast. Son had called when I was in bed already, to tell husband mine that he did not need to bring Xaver to school. If you think that I´d have a quiet breakfast then you are very wrong, because the technicians were indeed early. I went back to the bedroom for another period of reading. At least, gas heater is still okay. It It is old, very old, but working efficiently, very much so. Good for our budget, because there won´t be a new one for us. Because once the old heater dies we will have to resort to another heating system. Our Green Party has excelled themselves in making lives very expensive. In our case it will not keep to a new heater, but with the thermal heat pump we´ll need to install floor heating all over the house. Just before I started cooking lunch sister mine showed up, to pick up our sack barrow. We had a lively discussion about TV sets and fridge-freezers before she finally left. It did not take long and she was on the phone again and wanted more information (if I´d lend her my car, because hers is too small to carry a TV set).
After lunch I continued with the jigsaw, found that it was too cold in the conservatory, so the studio it was. I happily knitted along for a while, until I noticed that I had jumbled the numbers- it should have been 22 rows with 20 stitches each square, not just the opposite. More than one hour of knitting for nothing at all- this cardigan is so doomed! Finally we are back to routine- the moment the sun is off and twilight sets in I´m getting tired. Tiredness will last all evening long, until I retire- then I will be wide awake again. I so hate autumn!
