Title: Mechanics (1/1)
Author: Nora C. Parker
Pairing: Callie/Arizona
Rating: PG-13 for language, maybe
Summary: Kind of random. Locker room discussion amongst the Residents. Set before 7x20.
Disclaimer: I have no ownership over the characters.
Note: Probably odd, but this is an idea that I've had. While most of the straight couples on the show have fairly active sex lives, what's been shown for Calzona seems rather tame by comparison. It seems that this could lead to unrealistic expectations (to my thinking) about their personal relationship. This story is my way of commenting on that notion. I've been busy/stressed and not much time to write. Hope to get back to "Second Time Around" soon.

“It’s probably sweet. Cuddling and hugs and sweet whispering.” April Kepner finished tying her shoes. “I’m sure it’s lovely.”
“Yeah, right.” Alex scoffed.
It was just before start of the shift, and the residents’ locker room was beginning to fill up.
“Right what?” Bored at being locked out of any interesting surgeries, Cristina Yang was developing a lurid interest in the hospital gossip pool. If nothing else, maybe she could get some dirt on someone high enough up to blackmail her way back onto the cardiothoracic service. “What’s right?”
“Kepner’s trying to figure out how two chicks do it.” Karev explained the situation with his usual tact intact.
She didn’t even care that Karev gave her a look of doubt. “Well, it’s not like they have a,” she dropped her voice to a whisper, “penis.”
“Not unless they bought one, or a few.” As Cristina answered she flipped through a magazine. “C’mon, surely you’ve heard of strapons. Vibrators? Nipple clamps?”
At the mention of the last phrase, April automatically covered her chest with her forearm as if it needed protection.
Karev shook his head. “She thinks it’s all hand holding and boring crap.”
While Yang didn’t care about the subject of the gossip, she realized that it was too prime of a teasing opportunity to pass up. “So, Evil Spawn, have you watched enough educational films to have special expertise in this area?”
“What films?” Meredith Grey asked as she drifted into the room, pulling her hair back into a pony tail. Her sister, Lexie, trailed behind, entering with Jackson Avery. Avery took a seat on the bench, annoying Yang by trying to read over her shoulder.
“Alex is about to explain what happen when girl asks to give another girl a backrub during a slumber party.”
“Look, I work with Robbins and I respect her. There ain’t no way I’m having it get back to her that I’ve been talking smack about her or Torres.” He shot a look at Cristina that was summarily ignored by its intended victim before he turned his attentions to April. “Find your own guide to lesbo action.” He left without giving a look back.
An incident from the past was nudging at the edge of Meredith’s recollection. “Wasn’t Torres the one that broke Sloan’s” she pointed to her crotch.
“What? That’s not possible.” April’s mouth was hanging wide open. She looked to Jackson. “Is that possible?”
He crossed his legs. “I’d prefer to not consider the situation.”
“I..I don’t think…” Lexie stammered. She’d hoped that no one had recalled that situation, but clearly she was wrong.
“That was your crazy self-surgery friend,” Cristina interjected. “Wasn’t it?”
Lexie could feel a blush rising so she turned to dig in her locker, hoping no one else noticed.
“Oh yeah.” Meredith gave a shrug.
“Having lived with them, well, technically with Callie, I think roller girl’s got skills.” Cristina noticed all eyes turning in her direction. “What? Walls are only so thick.” Cristina shrugged. “At least I’m not the one who walked in on them in the shower,” she said, indicating Lexie.
“I didn’t know they were in there.”
A laugh broke out among those assembled. This time Lexie didn’t even try to hide the blush. “It’s not like I saw anything.”
Meredith took a seat next to Cristina. “I did tell George one time that Callie was hot.”
“Was that before or after she stripped naked in front of you?” Cristina’s comment earned a glare from Meredith. “What? You told me about her giving George his towel back in the middle of the hall…while she was wearing it.”
“I think Alex was right. We should stop talking about them.” Lexie looked over at Jackson and motioned towards the door. “No one wants to be the source of gossip.” The couple left the room.
“I’d be happy if I only heard about those two,” April muttered. “I swear they’ve been doing it in every room of the house.”
That earned a look from Cristina to Meredith. “Little sister’s getting her freak on?”
“Not in front of me, thankfully.” Meredith stood and offered Cristina a hand up. “C’mon, rounds.”
Cristina grudgingly accepted the aid and the two walked out with April trailing behind.
She hadn’t really gotten any answer. Then again, she hadn’t expected any. Not really. But a small part of her was still going to believe in the kissing and snuggling and hand holding. Not that she’d been thinking about this a lot. But if these women were going to be married, their lives together should be like a movie. A fairy tale. Sweet. And that’s what she was going to believe.
