Jerry Uelsmann is an artist comparable to the likes of Worhall, White, Adams, you name it, he's amazing, the reason i spent 8 hours one night in the dark room.
Artists :: Jerry Uelsmann :: 8 Artists :: Jerry Uelsmann :: 7 Uelsmann pretty much pioneered the idea of using layered images on the same print, a naturalist at heart, he only publishes work that has been done in the dark room rather than going digital. i spent 4 weeks trying to use his techniques to produce similar quality work and only ended up with 4 prints, he is truely a master of the element.
He's really the antithesis of the steriotype for the revolutionary artist, an easy going guy, not even really carying how people see his artwork, he tries not to have everyone look too deeply into his work, for him the are two kinds of prints that he does, either a print for the sake of making something that no one else has made, or as a form of expression, but for him it's not always that, and even if there is a deeper meaning, he wouldn't care whether or not it was understood, his general opinion is 'take from it what you will'.
"you see this print of a waterfall seemlessly turning into a cluster of trees, some may say, 'i wonder what he means by that,' but the truth is, i don't mean anything, it's simply a print of a waterfall turning into a cluster of trees, but let's see what you come up with." ~~~Uelsmann. but being human, he does have a troubled side, and one only has to look at some of his most complex works to see it.
