[Ami is not happy, and the voice over the journals has trouble keeping itself firm. Somehow she manages to speak clearly, but there's a noticeable tremble.]

Um, everyone? I know... we were just planning her party, but Usagi-chan has gone home. [She bites her lip, and then nods firmly as if to steel herself to go on.]Hinata-san, I have your ( Read more... )

I'm fine. I understand it's how things are here. She left once before, too. It's better for her at home, I know that, too.

...it's better when they're better off at home. I know that.

[These are all rationalizations, reasons why it doesn't hurt even though it hurts.]

She'll be with everyone, all her friends. Chiba Mamoru, too.

[Losing Willow and Xander still hurts. Giles knows these rationalizations all too well - he's heard them all from Buffy.]

And you'll be able to see her again when you're sent back, as well.

...although, are you already there? Back home, I mean.

I'll never see her again. [This is said as simply as possible for the finality of the words.]

It's better that way. For her, and because our worlds are separate. Our meeting was dangerous because of that, even though I'm glad for the chance to meet her, too.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see the danger involved beyond ordinary village life.

[You are getting in the way of her rationalization process, Giles. :|]

It's better for her if she's home.

...it's better for everyone if they're home.

[Except for him. And all his friends. So excuse him if he's projecting, Ami.]

Yes. I believe that. But I know some people are going to back to bad situations, too. I can't ignore that.

[Like you, yes, Giles. But Usagi is going to back to being queen of the world - literally - and to a husband who loves her and to being surrounded by her friends.]

Yes, well, if we had a choice in the matter, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

That's true. Right now, no one knows how to go back or send people back yet.

But if someone did, they'd have to decide how to handle that.

Yes, they would. For some people, it would probably be a very easy choice.

Less so for others.
