...Gianne had been Kara's sister?
...Kara and Lee were together and she almost (or did) cheated on him with Zak?
...Kara had gotten shot in Sacrifice instead of Lee (not necessarily by him)?
...they'd been transported somewhere else when Kara put the arrow in the archer's bow?
...Lee had chosen Kara as his XO in/after Razor?
...Sam had realized

Also... if Kara had been shot and seriously injured in Sacrifice rather than Lee--that could've changed everything for them. I could see Lee panicking and wanting to get to her and then just freaking out and hovering and (sorry Dee) forgetting all about the date/that relationship. Maybe the injury would even prevent her from going back to Caprica. Or maybe her mindset would change and it would just become far less of a priority.

Well, I actually have a different story in my head that I'm sorta letting percolate already set around Sacrifice. In that, Lee still gets shot by Kara, but it's AFTER she's already rescued/is seeing Anders. I think that time flip would change a lot of things because

a) Anders would no longer be a dead guy giving Kara Dead Guy Issues b) Lee WOULD become a proxy/potentially dead guy giving Kara Dead Guy Issues (I'm imagining the shot has a bit graver consequences/longer convalescence for Leland)
c) it would give Sam a chance to see how fucked up she is over shooting Lee and how that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Kara & Lee Issues and how he should get the fuck out the door while he can
d) it gives Kara a chance to really figure out that Sam isn't actually what she wants and that they aren't particularly well-suited because he'll never understand her nature

I haven't quite decided what happens to Dee but I'm thinking letting Billy live (although very damaged?) will nicely dovetail with this scenario.

Ooooh, this idea is exciting!

I remember when I first watched Sacrifice, being so thrilled because I thought pilots teaming up to solve a hostage situation had so much potential, and being so bitterly disappointed/heartbroken by the way it turned out, but I like this storyline much better.

Sadly, I am thinking that Kara getting shot wouldn't have done anything. Kara was wounded on the moon and came back injured and Lee didn't do much except play nursemaid. I don't think Lee would have had the guilt that Kara had if he'd shot her and that he'd have probably acted casually, as he seemed to around that time. IDK. Maybe it's the cynic in me about Lee these days. I'm not sure what, if anything, would have lit a fire under his ass to actually make a move for Kara.

Hmm. Maybe it's just me projecting then the way I would have liked him to respond. My biggest problem with Lee has always been that he doesn't put anything on the line for Kara ever. :( In relation, I've really really come to hate that "except for me/especially you" exchange of late. IT IS SO NOT TRUE. Lol.

EXACTLY. HE SAID NO TO HER WHEN IT COUNTED. UGH. And then when she came back from the dead, HE SAID NO AGAIN.

Lee, I can't with you today. (Yes, yes, I know, he had his reasons, but I am feeling rather obstinate about him today. I do think there were moments when he would have stepped up, but the TPTB declared it impossible. I guess I'll blame RDM instead and be nice to Lee.)

I think it's kind of a tragedy that they never let him save her or risk anything for her. :( Because I love that Kara can save herself and that they subvert the normal tropes of the damsel in distress for Lee but the best relationships are between equals and they are equals in almost every sense of the word in my mind--but they never let them save EACH OTHER. It's totally a missing piece in their relationship. (I so wish they had gone with that alternate storyline for Maelstrom. Sigh.)

Do you think it could have motivated Lee if Kara had been hurt trying to save him? I'm picturing her leaping in front of a bullet clearly meant for him. Lee doesn't have quite the capacity for guilt that Kara does, and maybe her nearly dying for him would force his hand. hmm...

The only scenario coming to me is if Kara were shot and she was asking for him and maybe if she was half out of it and said she needed or loved him. It seems a little contrived, but he seems to have such a disaffected wall up around this time in the show that I think it would have taken something directly about the two of them to break through it.

I could see Kara asking for Lee if she had specifically taken a bullet for him. And I would love for her to confess her love for him half out of it and thinking she was going to die.

It might be a little contrived but I tend to think that Lee's hesitancy towards Kara is in part a product of her backing away/not going all in with him so it makes perfect sense to me. :)

If Kara was thinking she was going to die, I could see her maybe want to get him so she could clear her conscience of the fact that she loved him and never told him. Almost a religious thing, like a confession. Or I guess like her confessing about her passing Zak, although a bit less dire.

I like that angle of a sort-of confession to Lee about her feelings. I can see that actually working in a lot of scenarios. *ponders*

Butting in with a fic rec for the scenario of Kara getting shot in Sacrifice Caught in the Crossfire. This fic is a total gem, it's short but packs an emotional wallop.

Hmmm, I've been racking my brain because I know I must've read numerous fics that included that type of conversation but my brain is only coming up with one fic. literarylemming's Lee and Kara, Kara and Lee. I don't think the farm element is in the whole fic but I remember it being a big part of the start of the story. Plus, it's smutfic which is always a bonus. :)
