Ok, I have thoughts...

At first, I thought it was all about fixing the wrongs done unto me and my bbs. I was completely gutted by the end for Kara and Lee and I knew that they didn't end up together but the way it was done killed me. But as I dipped my toe into fandom and actually writing, I realized it was more than that. BSG is for me just ripe with jumping off points for taking the 'other road' and exploring the plots and relationships I feel like the writers dropped. With so many 'what if...' moments it's hard not to play the possibilities. More recently, I recently I came to terms with my frequent discomfort the fics that explore without necessarily changing the outcome of canon. Character exploration pieces I understand and appreciate, but anything that changes and then resolves back to canon I find frustrating because I've seen that, I want to know what makes this change of course different and new. :)

I rarely write anything set in season 1. Part of the reason is that I really like the tone and direction of the show in general through the end of the Res Ship arc, but I also felt more hopeful about how the characters might grow and change in S1 and it's hard for me to write in that area without my (now dashed) feelings of hope sneaking in.

I am particularly fond of playing with the events of the Quad of Doom (UB to TAB) and with the second half of season 2 because there seem to be so many place where the characters could have made the other choice and changed things.
