Alright guys, so last week I went down to the states to see Stevie Nicks and I've been trying to wait until I have time to describe the experience, and... it's just not possible. So bear with me:

(destiny's child's cover of bootylicious -> dreams remix intro)

enchanted
stop draggin' my heart around
outside the rain -> dreams
rhiannon
sorcerer
stand back
landslide
gold dust woman
if anyone falls
fall from grace
how still my love
edge of seventeen

i need to know

beauty and the beast

This show, on the Tenth of May, was phenomenal. It was her first show since the end of the 2003-04 Fleetwood Mac world tour, and Stevie's first solo appearance since the Trouble in Shangri-La tour, so nobody had any idea what she would play, but I never expected to hear some of those songs! I got to see the first performance of "If Anyone Falls" since the coked-up 1985-86 Rock A Little tour, it was incredible. "How Still My Love" was another complete surprise, she hadn't done that one since Street Angel tour of '94. Lori Perry, one of Stevie's two long time back ground singers was there too, which was great, to hear the two voices that sing on all the records (Sharon Celani was there too, but Lori hadn't performed live with Stevie since 1989) from a few feet away. Fall From Grace, Edge of Seventeen, Stop Draggin' My Heart Around, jeez there where so many exciting songs. Simply put, that setlist is some of my favorite songs of all time, performed by my favorite artist in an intimate theatre. Stevie was on fire as usual, but you could tell this show was really special. Stevie had this huge Imax screen projecting wild imagery and old footage from her videos behind her, huge pillars dropped from the ceiling to recreate the the "If Anyone Falls" video, the lighting was great, it was probably the most over-the-top set up of any show I'd ever been to. Very Vegas. The highlist of the show, however, was the second encore, "Beauty and the Beast", which hasn't seen the light of day since the Other Side of the Mirror tour. Besides being a devastatingly heartbreaking song, Stevie put all her energy into this song, as she came out in this long, black cape with a huge collar behind her and a little black tiara-thing in her hair, while black and white footage of Jean Cocteau's film, Beauty and the Beast played on the screen hehind her. It was the most dramatic thing I'd ever seen. This song alone made the whole trip worth it, my brain just melted.

And Vegas? I'm not sure how I feel about Las Vegas. Surreal is the best word I can think of to describe the city. Surreal. This trippy little neon city in the middle of the desert surrounded by mountains. The flight was alright, I just listened to music and the whole time as I flew from Toronto to Kentucky, then Kentucky to Nevada, then back the next day. I also read Joanna Lumley (AKA Patsy Stone)'s autobiography, "No Room For Secrets" along the way. It still all feels like a dream, I have to think to myself, "I didn't really fly to Nevada by myself for Patsy Nicks, and like, get away with it, did I?" I'd never been that far west before, got to see the continental divide, the Great Plains, the Grand Canyon, pretty neat when you think about it. The south-west, is a corner of the continent that I'd love to rent a car and drive around Mexico, Arizona and New Mexico for a few weeks. I know people that have done that and just loved it. Maybe next time. The morning before I left I went to the top of my hotel, The Statosphere, "tallest building west of the Mississippi", or something (not as tall as the CN Tower). All those mountains and and canyons rocks really look like Mars from a distance. It was a long haul, but very worth it, for art, for rock and roll. Oh my God, it was amazing. Best concert I've been to in a long time, maybe ever. I know I say that every time I see her, but seriously, La Nicks live is the best drug in the world (and I mean that when I say it). Nothing else matters.
