CHARACTER
✧ NAME: Ciel Phantomhive
✧ SERIES: Kuroshitsuji
✧ HISTORY:
Kurowiki ✧ TIMELINE: I’ll be taking Ciel just after the Circus Arc in the manga (Aged up accordingly).
✧ PERSONALITY: Originally, Ciel had been a normal, cheerful, energetic child with a gentle nature, and a loving family. That idyllic world and lifestyle was irreparably shattered on his 10th birthday when his parents were tragically murdered and he was subsequently kidnapped both of which forced him to grow up prematurely. Ever since that time, Ciel had been transformed into a cold, cynical, calculating youth who prioritized his own objectives above anything else, a stark contrast to his former self.
Ciel prefers to keep to himself, primarily only engaging in conversations or interacting with others when it is beneficial, amusing, or completely unavoidable. Consequentially he hates large social gatherings but as he is an Earl, he can manage to put his best foot forward and be a noble, and magnanimous host. That side of himself is primarily all an act. Ever since the Phantomhive tragedy, Ciel has never genuinely smiled, and is unable to cry. He's not above sulking, brooding, or being down right condescending at times. Part of this attitude stems from being precocious for his age, the rest just from being an immature child underneath it all. He finds it difficult to trust others, given his prior history.
Although Ciel tries to maintain his composure at all times, fulfilling his role as the head of the Phantomhive title and the profitable Funtom co. Toy and confectionery company he is subject to revealing his actual age in his reactions and decisions. He can actually act quite childish. For example, on several occasions when his staff is preparing for visitors, important or otherwise, Ciel will oftentimes issue frivolous requests that pull his most competent servant, his butler, away from the task at hand. This was the case when Ciel’s uncle Clause was scheduled for a visit, and Ciel called for Sebastian and tried to get him to prepare a sweet treat for him before the event at which time the other servants destroyed all of Sebastian’s hard work. He will often sabotage Sebastian’s work or test his abilities just to see if Sebastian is capable of failing. Despite all of these tests, Sebastian is the one he relies on the most and shares a unique repertoire.
He possesses an aversion to touching, and will not hesitate to strike someone he feels is invading his personal space. Also he despises being treated like a child or being referred to as one unless it works in his favor. When he was instructed to hold a social gathering of his own he managed to leave the festivities earlier by claiming that since he was a child, he needed his sleep. In this sense he is an opportunist. At the same time in one of the earlier exchanges, Ciel is frustrated when the man in charge of the establishment where he purchased a new cane for himself asks if he’s there on an errand for his father. This also shows that he can have a quick temper.
There is another side to Ciel’s nature, that generally tends to surface when he’s in the company of his prearranged fiancée who was also his childhood friend and cousin. Lizzie, being one of the few people remaining who really knew what he was like before those aforementioned events, seems to be the one Ciel wants to reveal the least to about the darker side of his nature. Occasionally he will treat her with more kindness than he generally shows others. Also he can be quite protective of her. In one instance, Lizzie was almost attacked by a bear and without hesitation Ciel threw himself between her and the advancing creature. It should also be noted that even though Ciel claims that he won’t have any regrets about his decisions, he does seem to have a few. Such as when the final victim is killed during the ripper murders being that they could have saved her had their priority been to save her and not to apprehend the killer. He does provide for a proper burial claiming that kindness had nothing to do with it.
In short, Ciel’s main purpose in existing is to see that those who sullied the Phantomhive name and those who wronged himself personally subject to the same humiliation and suffering that he experienced. Ergo he has a vengeful side to his personality, manipulates others into serving his ends, but is still a child beneath it all subject to uncertainty, and personal weakness. His weaknesses he tries to mask the most and his pride often gets in the way. He is capable of showing compassion but it’s usual subtle and understated preferring not to draw attention to this fact.
✧ ABILITIES/POWERS: There is a reason why Ciel requires his butler’s power, being that he does not possess much of his own. What he lacks in physical strength, however he makes up for in intelligence and critical thinking. He is a master not only at chess but games in general. He’s able to view a set of circumstances and deduce where they may lead or how things may transpire. This is a particularly useful skill being that it’s imperative that Ciel is able to move his pawns into the proper positions. On the more academic side, Ciel is shown to be skilled at playing the violin, have some experience with art, and to be moderately skilled in fencing during his private tutoring sessions contained in the sixteenth chapter of the manga. It should also be noted that despite wearing an eyepatch over one eye, he is a skilled marksman. For a comparison, during a shooting competition between himself and his Aunt Frances he is able to shoot just as much game as her despite having a slightly delayed start, and the difference in their level of experience.

SAMPLES
✧ FIRST PERSON: I still cannot fathom how I ended up playing host to that insipid prince and his overeager servant. They were quite insistent that I should allow them to stay, claiming that I owed them for their assistance during a skirmish in town, however had they not interfered in the first place… the situation would have been diffused that much sooner.
Tch, I’m not sure for how much longer I can stand this arrangement. If they would keep to themselves it would be a different matter however they managed to interrupt every single one of my lessons and threw off the entire day’s schedule.
I suppose it wasn’t a total loss.. I have learned something quite singular about one of our guests and perhaps they may hold some relevance to the matter I’m currently engaged in solving. For now, I have decided to keep on eye on them, and see if anything further develops.
✧ THIRD PERSON: A lone figure was pressed against the side of a dilapidated building, trying to conceal himself in the long shadows cast by an adjacent structure. Night had fallen several hours ago, the streets were still damp and glistening from the late afternoon rainfall with only a series of pale, flickering gas street lights to illuminate the otherwise abandoned cobblestone streets. Furthermore, only the sounds of dripping water and the sound of his own breathing reached the young Earl’s ears. According to all the information he’d managed to accumulate during the prior investigation, this should be the location of the next drop off. This time, Ciel fully intended to catch the illegal transaction in progress. Waiting was the worst part. Anxious moment, after anxious moment ticked by, leaving him alone to his own thoughts.
How long was it going to take for something to happen? Reaching a hand around to his back pocket, he found the weapon he’d concealed earlier. Satisfied that it was still securely fastened to his person, he tried not to think about the prospect of his needing it later this evening. If it became necessary he wouldn’t allow himself to hesitate. Hesitation, even for one moment could be fatal, and dying prematurely was not something he could afford. Only when his goals were accomplished would he forfeit his life, or rather his soul.
That was the moment where he realized just what seemed off about this scenario. This street, this order from the Queen, all of it. Where was Sebastian? For something like this.. he should be here, shouldn’t he? Hadn’t he remembered to order as much? The revelation did not however convince Ciel to abandon this evenings agenda, should his life truly become endangered Sebastian would intervene, he was sure of that. That had been one included in the original stipulation of their contract and he was willing to bet that the demon wouldn’t risk losing his meal. Relaxing, just slightly, he continued the tedious stake out with newfound resolve.
CA-LICK
The sound of someone cocking a gun, far too close for comfort. Wheeling around, the only thing that caught his eye was the barrel of a gun, and Sebastian was still no where in sight…
Bolting upright, the boy was disoriented, his eyes darting around the vicinity, his breath coming in gasps. Only instead of finding himself in some darkened alleyway he was situated in his own bed, in his own house still dressed in his nightshirt. His gun however was now clutched in his hand, as a reflex he’d withdrawn it from under his pillow. He always kept it there, for emergencies. Taking stock of his situation his muscles relaxed and he gazed toward the bedroom door. Was that the aroma of Ceylon tea?
When the door opened, he didn’t have to guess who was on the other side. “Sebastian”. Ciel uttered, his butler only momentarily took pause at the sight of the weapon the boy was still holding. “You’re late…” Ciel complained, dismissing the possibility of explaining what had just occurred. It wouldn’t be the first nightmare he’d witnessed and it certainly wouldn’t be the last.
