ToD: Week 9 Dare - Phone someone

Dare: Call someone you haven't talked to in at least six months.

Six months?  It had been a lot longer than that since she last talked to her uncle and she was a bit nervous about calling him.  She wasn't sure what he had heard from her mother and her father, if he knew the whole extent of the story since she had moved to New York.  She could handle walking away from her parents but her uncle was important to her.  He had been around more for her when she was younger, he had given her her love for music and he had been her confidant while growing up.  There was a lot that he had taught her and she was scared that he wasn't going to be there anymore.  But it was time to call, time to see where she stood.  So she picked up the phone, sitting down in the corner of the couch and started dialing the numbers that would take her call all the way south to Texas.

"Hello?"  Came the gruff voice after two rings and Farah felt her heart leap into her throat.

"Uncle Billy?"  She hoped that her voice didn't tremble like she feared that it did. There was a slight pause at the other end and for a moment she was worried he hung up but then his voice came back, softer, "Farah  Farah, where the hell are you?"

That made her blink, "I'm in New York, same place I've been for about a year."  Her confusion showed through her tone.

"Your mother said you ran away, months ago.  That she didn't know where you were."  His voice showed his own confusion and almost a relieved panic as he sat down at his table in his kitchen.

"What?"  Farah's voice rose a bit, her mind stunned before it started to race.  Her mother wouldn't possibly lie to her own, yes she would, she would lie to her brother in law but why would Farah's father lie to his own brother.  "What do you know about what happened?"

"Your mother said that you two got into a fight because you started a stripper job, then that you moved out and she had no idea where you were."

"That's so not what happened!"  Farah bit back a growl, pressing a hand to her features as though her head was suddenly hurting which it was.  She could feel the pressure of a headache pressing at her temples as she blew out a soft sigh.

"What happened then?"  Billy wondered if he was going to really hate this story.  So he sat back as his niece, who he looked at like a daughter, explained everything that happened.  From Bret coming to New York, the fight that happened in front of her mother while Bret called Farah horrible names and her mother did nothing.  About Farah being homeless, then switching between a hotel and a friend's place, and that yes she did take a job stripping but it was after she left her home.  Then about how she got a home from a friend and started seeing a man that had helped her when she moved out.  About the fight with Bret at her home when he pushed her into a door and he broke her nose, the fight bad enough that she got a restraining order.

As it all came tumbling out, Farah's heart was racing as she closed her eyes and waited for him to say something but nothing came.  "Uncle Billy?"  She asked, a bit fearful.

"I'm going to kill that little son of a bitch."  Billy hissed, seething as he thought about Bret, how he was going to take the sledge hammer he used for fencing and he was going to break his kneecaps.  "And your ma, I'm going to call her and rip her a new one.  As for my brother, he'll hear about this too.  Are you okay, baby girl?"

Farah could feel her throat closing in gratitude as she bit back a little sniffle, hormones making it worse as she should have realized that her uncle would come to her rescue.  He had never let her down before and so why would he start now?  "I'm fine."

"I'm coming to New York as soon as I can."  He decided, he wanted to see her for himself and he wanted to see her mother face to face when he ripped her a new one.

"When?"  Farah squeaked.

"Probably can't for a couple weeks, maybe a month.  Can I come stay with you when I get in?"

"Well...yes. But Uncle Billy, there's something else."  She looked up, biting her lip.  "I'm pregnant."

"WHAT??"

That had sealed it of course, her uncle was going to come to New York as soon as he could and there was no way to argue it.  He would come up as soon as he can because he wanted to see her, check her home and make sure he was okay.  He didn't say anything about meeting the man that she was with and who had gotten her pregnant but she wondered if that went without saying.  That made her groan because honestly, she wasn't sure what her uncle would say about her dating a man who was roughly the same age as him.

As she hung up the phone an hour after she started talking to her uncle, she gave a little hiccup as she wiped her eyes and sighed.  Hormones could be hell but at least she had called him.  Her dare was done and her world felt a little more stable because of it.
