I’ve been no-poo for 7 months. My biggest problems are a total lack of consistent results and increasingly severe dandruff.
I currently use all of a mix of ½ teaspoon BS to 1 cup water ,and I spray a little from a mix of 1 tablespoon ACV to 1 cup of water all over my hair including my scalp (a blogger swore by this method of spraying on her scalp to get rid of dandruff but I haven’t seen any results). I’ve tried 1 tablespoon of BS, 1 teaspoon, and then ½ teaspoon but the amount of BS doesn’t seem to be making a difference. I wash my hair twice a week.
I currently take warm showers followed by a cold rinse at the end. I’ve tried hot, warm and cold (each with different amounts of BS). For a few months (around the time I was using 1 teaspoon BS + warm showers + warm weather) dandruff would appear for 8 hours after a shower then disappear, and stay gone for a good 2 days. That’s the closest I’ve ever been to being dandruff free and I can’t seem to replicate the results (my hair also *looked* great too).
Then the texture of my hair has been a consistent problem. My hair has always had dandruff, but even before going no poo I had great body, shine and texture. Now my hair is often stiff and appears flat, yet my front strands are prone to clumping together in strings even when it’s not oily.
My dandruff can be physically uncomfortable, noticeable from a distance, and 3-4 days after a wash will sometimes actually free fall right in front of my face (really gross and embarrassing). But I could deal with that better if my hair at least looked nice. I’m getting fed up with the constant tinkering of my method without getting results, especially since the weather and seasons don’t seem to be the determining factors in what works and doesn’t- it seems completely random! Any suggestions to help with either the dandruff or the texture/appearance problems would be greatly appreciated, I think if I haven’t gotten a set of guidelines that works for me by the 12 month mark I’m going to have to go back to shampoo :/
If it’s relevant, I work a 10 hour overnight shift doing mainly physical labor. I have shoulder length, dirty blond, thin straight hair that’s never been dyed/straightened/etc. I use no products and always air dry and it appears I do NOT have hard water.
