One step at a time....

A couple of questions about going semi-no-poo, but first a little background:

I've always had incredibly oily hair, the kind where the day I've showered, by that night I am a greaseball…hair plastered to my head, shiny (in a gross way), etc. Because of that, I've always considered that I have 'oily hair', and would wash my hair every time I showered (which was every day pretty much, give or take).

Fast forward to a couple of months ago. I found the first hairdresser I've ever really liked out in Brooklyn (she cuts your hair when its dry, not wet); I sat down and immediately began to apologize for the fact she was going to have to get elbow deep into my gross locks, but she looked at my head, gave it a couple of brushes and was like, "Woman, your hair isn't oily. It's dry as f**k!". Cue the shock, but something I never really thought about-washing your hair every day is like washing a tshirt every day…eventually it's just going to fall apart!! So when I was washing, I was scrubbing the crown of my head to get it clean, but then the rest of my hair was getting almost too clean all the time, which is why I've always had such a problem with static when we hit fall/wintertime.

Things i had never stopped to wonder on!

That was May, and at her behest I've cut down how often I shampoo my hair to twice a week, Wednesday and Saturdays/Sundays. So, in effect, I'm not COMPLETELY no-poo, but I have severely cut down on what I used to do. On my off days I wash with water, though I do still use conditioner, to attempt to bring back to life the dry straw that is hanging out on the back of my head where I never really saw it before.

So thats *counts* almost 7 months I've made this drastic change (drastic, as I've been doing the same thing all my life, and in May just turned it on it's head), and I'm mostly just curious….should I be seeing much of a difference? I'm still shampooing twice a week because my hair continues to be really dry and oily after the first day, and on the second usually has to go up in a bun, etc. I guess I was expecting some sort of positive feedback from my head as to the change in routine, but really….my hair just looks like shit most of the time, vs at least being clean during the day.

I haven't gone no-poo, as I live with three guys and don't really trust any sort of home-made concoction to our shower, and besides that I spend a lot of time at my boyfriend's house, which I feel would really screw up any attempt at a routine too.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you have! I know it's not 100% for this community, but I'm slowly trying to get my way there :)

My hair:
Color: Strawberry Blonde
