grey buildup

I've been going no poo for about 3 months now. I have very long curly, moderately thick hair. I used to wash it very rarely with shampoo but i had to use tons of products to keep it hydrated and under control. The no-poo has worked wonders for my curly hair. It is now much more controlled and my curls and shaping themselves great. However, I live in a very cold area which requires me to straighten my hair throughout the winter, since I can't wait for it to dry before going out every day. I've blow dried it straight and then straightened it twice so far, and when I'm handling it, after blow drying it, it is extremely unpleasant to the touch and it leaves a gray gunky buildup in my hands and brush. It also isn't soft and it's hard to run my hands through it. I am currently using a recipe I found online of using about a tablespoon of BS (although I often use a bit more) and adding a bit of water to make it into a paste. Then I use a rinse of 2 cups of water to one tablespoon of ACV. I don't wash it steadily, which might be the problem, but whenever I have time and feel like I need to. sometimes 3 days sometimes one week. My hair seems ok while it's curly, which is why this is so surprising to me. Do you recommend anything for eliminating the buildup?

Thank you!
