Hello everybody!

I'm new here, just joined today! I started this little experiment 5 days ago, and I figured I'd post it all here for you guys to see whats been going on.

Does anybody have very thin but curly hair? Is that just the weirdest mix ever?

Happy reading! =)

SLS must die

So, I've decided I'm going to try a little experiment. I have been doing some research about shampoo and have decided I'm going to try NOT shampooing my hair. All the chemicals they put in it, along with my genetics, have been making my hair fall out. I'M 20 YEARS OLD I should still have a full head of hair. SO you, my lovely friends on LJ, are going to be updated on this little experiment...

Day 1:

so today in my shower, I'm not goign to wash my hair. This is going to bother me. I have been so accustomed to this chemically stripped feeling of clean that I'm not so sure how I'm going to feel after i don't use shampoo. I don't think I'm going to cut it out cold turkey, but more slowly. I usually wash my hair 4-5 times a week (which anybody will say, that is bad anyway) so I'm going to try to cut it down to 1-2 times, then hopefully slowly down to once a week then maybe once every other week. I decided to try this experiment yesterday, after realizing that I had washed my hair Sunday and wanted to wash it again today. I think what I'll probably do today is just wash with very hot water and alitle bit of conditioner and hope for the best. I am expecting to have an oily scalp for a couple of weeks at least. Patience....

I'll let you know how it feels after the shower...

EDIT: So after my shower today, things are not as bad as I thought they would be. My hair doesn't feel greasy at all, in fact it feels pretty smooth and a lot less frizzy. Unfortunately I forsee greasy hair in my future... I did notice MUCH less hair fell out of my scalp in the shower, almost none at all! I'm quite excited because maybe my hair will fill out again!

10/8 Day 3: So, today I took a shower as per usual, and the entire time i was so bothered by not washing my hair that i nearly forgot to do everything else! The amount of hair that has fallen out is exponentially less than it was last week using shampoo. I'm starting to think that cutting cold turkey will be the best way to regulate my scalp to this no shampoo useage. Not to mention my dandruff has gotten 100 times better. Today my hair looks a bit drab, and flat, but I really do think it is because my body is not used to not having to overproduce sebum and its like WHAAAAT?!

Yesterday was a bit harder because I definitely was feeling the grease, and I put my hair in a pony tail. BAD ME BAD. Hopefully things will continue to get better...

10/9 Day 4: so I showered tonight, and i used a baking soda mix to clean my hair and so far HOLY CRAP IT WORKS!! My hair felt cleaner than if i had used regular shampoo! I'll let you know how it looks tomorrow!

10/10 Day 5: So the baking soda wash really seemed to work as well as if not better than shampoo! I will probably continue to do this baking soda rinse method once a week, and keep scrubbing with conditioner in all the showers in between. Another fun thing i tried is a simple spray made out of just plain old water and some drops of lavendar essential oil. Sometimes my hair goes flat after i sleep on it, so if I spray my whole head with this concoction, i can get the bounce back in my curls, and the lavendar makes my hair smell AMAZINGGG. Oh and when i get out of the shower i use the garnier fructise leave in sleek and shine conditioner, which defines my curls and also smells great.

I still think i might have some issues staying 'poo free... we shall see....
