of models and makeovers

I told you Tyra was getting kinda big! And by kinda big, I mean Godzilla-sized. Also big props to whomever must have spent countless hours photoshopping Tyra's body to make it look like she actually has a waist. What's up, airbrush?

I'm doing a combined re-cap for both episodes two and three because while episode two did have its moments (Fatima can't tell when she's being bitchy, Paulina being "mean" to the girls, Kimberly leaving, and boring-ass Atalya getting the boot), I'm over it and I want to be caught up with the episodes.

What can be said about episode two that I already didn't post parenthetically? Ah yes, I am not 100% sold on Paulina. Although I will admit I still find her absolutely striking (sorry Twiggles, but you're just not hot anymore), and she hasn't yet uttered the phrase "'the camera loves you", I was hoping she'd be a lot tougher a la Janice Dickinson (however no one could ever be that amazing).

Kimberly left us, thank God, but not before spewing tons of ridiculousness about not being interested in fashion or selling expensive clothes. What did she think she was signing up for, America's Next Thrift Store Model? Good riddance to your squish-faced-pug-looking self!

Atalya was cruelly eliminated after Kimberly walked out. Her picture was weak, her personality was not memorable, and she was just too "safe." It does suck that she got sent home after another girl willingly left the competition. I mean, look at last cycle's Ebony/Ambreal drama...Ebony quit and Ambreal got to stay. I guess Top Model is a world full of paradoxes.

Makeover day is always my favorite day on any cycle of ANTM. Most of it is due to the fact that there is so much drama inherent in changing a woman's hair. I understand this because to many women their hair is a symbol of their power. So when a woman feels powerless, she goes and cuts her hair because it's one thing she can fully assert her power over. And if the decision of what to do with her hair is removed from her power, expect some drama. This cycle was relatively low on makeover drama. Most of the girls loved their hair, although I don't think the makeovers were great improvements for many of the girls.

Now that makeovers are over, I feel like I can pick my favorites a bit better and focus on them (unless of course, someone sneaks in or out of my favorites or just does something post-worthy).

Whitney
I love that they made her a blonde. That dark hair was doing her absolutely no favors. I don't like the length, though. It's long, a fact that you can barely tell due to how it's styled here, but I wish it were shorter. Her picture wasn't very strong this week, but much of the issue was due to her being styled in an extremely constricting garment and being completely covered up (in comparison to the other girls).

Amis
I'm still kind of in love with Crazy Amis. She's cooky, yet stunning at the same time. She needs to work on her angles and her expressions and she'll be able to do well on this show.

Claire
I am absolutely in love with this girl. Her makeover gave her an even edgier look and I love how she can do the eyebrow raise. From personal experience I know that the single eyebrow raise requires so much effort. Yes, she needs to relax her jaw, but her picture is still amazing.

Fatima
I can't believe how much long hair Tyra gave out this season. The weave bill alone must have run $10,000! Dominique looks good with all that hair, even if she did cry due to the pain of having it put in. Her photo is nice, although the panel was correct in criticizing her inability to work her legs. I still choose to adore her, however, if only because she doesn't realize when she's being bitchy to people. She's not a bitch, she's just misunderstood!

Marvita
Marvita managed to look boobielicious and feminine, yet strong in this photo. Her makeover was like a Sanjaya ponyhawk minus all the ponies...just one BIG pony. I don't know if I love it or hate it yet, but it is most definitely striking.

Aimee
Even if there's only room for one Amy in the house, there's plenty of room for two in my heart! I like that her hair was lightened, and she was already a pretty girl to begin with. This picture is really fun and flirty.

So those are my current favorites in the competition. We'll see how they fare, but I am hoping that one of these wins the show. Until then, keep watching!
