Let me tell you something Carter... Personally, I like things the way they are.
The Aschen, the great saviors of the human race, had made sweeping changes, eradicating the problems of humanity, destroying Earth's enemies, and granting mankind a new lease on life through medicine and technology. The world had prospered in its alliance with them, and its membership to the Aschen Confederacy. On the ten year anniversary of the meeting of these two great races, a celebration of honor was held for the military team that first encountered the Aschen. The leader of this team, however... was no where to be found in the midst of the merry making.
Jack O'Neill had spent the last ten years in solitude, rejecting the companionship of his closest friends and comrades. He'd known for a very long time, since the very beginning almost, that the Aschen were not as they appeared, but no one would listen to him. So he bided his time, waiting for them to make a wrong move. Waiting, for the rest of the world to realize their folly.
When they finally did, despite initially giving in to the impulse to sit back and let the world suffer for rejecting him, Jack stepped up. Working together with his former team, he sought to send a message to the past, to stop the present from ever happening. It was in this noble attempt that Jack died... and awoke in a new world entirely.
No more saving the world. Just a nice pond, with no pesky fish in it.
