=========================================================
It wasn’t that hard to find what one was looking for, if you had the right payout for it. The ‘well-to-do’ parts of society think in physical terms only when they hear that, like credits and parts instead of favors and vague promises. It’s what gets a lot of them into real binds when they try and bargain with those of us on the lower rungs of society, and finding out far too late their credits are not as valuable to us as they are to them. Oh sure most won’t turn down a payout of hard cash or new parts, but having too many credits on hand can get you into the sights of optics you don’t want to have on you. That, and most get a thrill out of backing those from the Towers and such into corners they couldn’t get out of without ruining their lofty reputations, because no matter how many times they flock down here in their nervous and bluffing bravado ways none ever learned to be careful on how things are worded when discussion of payments came up.
Sometimes I’d feel bad during certain pay collections when it started involving those that shouldn’t have been involved, but as much as a soft spark I might have on such deals, I didn’t survive this long by sticking my faceplate into other people’s business. Especially when the business involved those like Shockwave, that much brilliance and single mindedness was not something to get entangled with. You were better off ducking your head and getting out of the area quickly when he came through or was in the middle of a deal, the little red mech that just watched everything that showed up with him from time to time was also to be avoided. Last altruistic idiot to try and ‘save’ that one from whatever he was being used for by Shockwave didn’t end pleasantly I heard. That one was a brilliant mechling, could probably rival Shockwave if given a chance.
That one was so wrapped up in whatever the mono-optic mech did to keep his living payouts loyal, most had given him up to be a drone with unusual intelligence. So when the whole war started it had made several of those down here wary and skittish when a ‘non-combatant’ by the name of Perceptor joined the Autobots. The little scientist looking far too much like that mechling that followed Shockwave’s orders.
Though we probably should have listened a bit more to that voice early on. We may have not be in the bind we are now here and now with that little turncoat affair destroying ranks of the Autobots.
