Who wants to put the petition together to declare that only marriages between non-dog owners will be recognized by the state of California. Or is there a better reducio ad absurdum argument (that doesn't get into federal jurisdiction) out there?
Yes, the temptation is to propose that marriages between Mormons be illegal, but religious belief is already protected in any number of ways. The trick is to find something that's not protected.
The only drawback I see to this argument is that it trivializes being gay, or at the very least bringing it down to a lifestyle choice, so maybe it's not a good idea. It is just a passing thought, after all. Perhaps this can be done at the same time as the Repeal 8 campaign that's going around - someone *is* formally working on that, right?
