IC Information:
Name: Ritsuka Aoyagi
Fandom: Loveless (Manga)
Timeline: Chapter 64 (After Soubi helps Seimei escape from the library)
Age: 13
Appearance:

Ritsuka is actually a bit short for his age. He has short cropped black hair with a pair of cat ears (Also in black). His eyes are a dark purple although sometimes they seem to be a bit black.

Ritsuka has a pale completion and a lilt frame that make him seem smaller then the other children in girth as well as height. He has long legs and arms, and a medium sized torso. From his tailbone he has a thin long cat tail in black.

There is a bandage on his right cheek that has never been taken off in the manga.

Abilities:
In the Loveless canon, there are sacrifices, and there are fighters. Each pair possesses one name that each half is born with on their body. Ritsuka's name is 'Loveless.' In the world of Loveless, there is only supposed to be one sacrifice to one fighter. The fighter does just that: fights in what is known as a 'spell battle' against another pair. The sacrifice however, is the damage-taker and powerhouse of the pair.

As a sacrifice, it is imperative to take charge of a situation and issue commands to the fighter. They are looked at as the tactician of the pair, and are looked to for all commands inside and outside of battle. (There is some question as to whether a sacrifice can do more, since Seimei - as a sacrifice - can CLEARLY do more than just what is mentioned above, but there is nothing solid about that in the series yet.)

Ritsuka, as a sacrifice, kind of sucks. He detests violence, and is a pacifist. He refuses to give commands unless it is a desperate situation, or he is really angry, and he hates the idea of hurting Soubi. He is, however, GREAT at taking damage and pain. He’s willing to withstand a great deal of it in order for Soubi to continue fighting.

Ritsuka leaves all the planning and pretty much anything in a fight up to Soubi. His most specific command to date was “Get me that letter.” To be fair, Ritsuka is pretty much ordered around by his fighter, Soubi, who isn’t really the 'Loveless’ fighter but a blank that he only recently claimed as his. He is aware that there may be another person with the name Loveless with whom he is connected through the golden thread. But he has claimed Soubi and, while he continues to let Soubi do all the work, he has started to become more commanding as a person and as a sacrifice.

Personality:

At first Ritsuka is a difficult kid to figure out. He's embittered by so many things at the point where the series begins that it’s hard to see any sort of personality within him. The fact that his brother (the only source of love and comfort in his life) is dead, and the way that the body was discovered plays a large role in this. He’s also forced to hide his emotions behind a mask of indignation and lies due to the fact that his mother would try to harm him if he did anything that was out of 'Ritsuka's' normal behavior. Because of this he has been forced to grow up more then a normal boy of his age.

While he accepts his mother's abuse and does nothing to stop it or fight back, he does try to avoid it by being as close to the Ritsuka that she believes is real as he can. Since this often fails he willingly takes the extreme abuse from his mother and has even developed a complex to the point of believing that he is not really himself and that a 'real Ritsuka' will return and take his place in Ritsuka's body.

Outside of his family dysfunction Ritsuka can be a very sweet and 'normal' child. He is very blunt with the other students around him. While this is still the case with his friends he is much softer about these things, especially when dealing with his best friend Yuiko. She clearly has a special place in his heart that is shown through his actions. With her, once they become friends he is gentle and kind. Yuiko is the first person to make him genuinely smile about something not related to Seimei. She is one of four people in the series that he truly wishes to protect and care for. The other’s being his mother, Seimei’s memory, and Soubi.
In regards to Soubi, he is very suspicious of the man at first (of course who wouldn't be when the guy is hanging around like Soubi is). However, as the series progresses and he gets to know the older man better he begins to become a sort of parental/wife figure to the man. He is protective and wants to care for Soubi. There is a sort of love for Soubi that hasn’t been completely developed. Ritsuka isn’t sure how he feels about the older man, but he does know that he has feelings for him. He doesn’t want to love him because of all of Soubi’s lies, but he seems to be falling for him anyway.

By the time that Seimei escapes from the library, Ritsuka has managed to accept the truth about his brother. That Seimei is not completely the kind and loving person that he remembers, but is also the a violent person who abused Soubi and whom Kio hates. This doesn't mean that he doesn't love his brother with all of his heart. He believes that Seimei loves him and wants to save his brother from whatever situation he is in.

Even so, he feels hurt by his brother's actions and feels closer to Soubi due to the betrayal from his brother. He wants to, and even believes that he forgives Seimei for his actions, but also acknowledges to Seimei that he is still angry about what the other boy has done. He wants to take Seimei back home, to be a family again. That is what he is determined to do.

History:

Ritsuka doesn't remember anything that happened in his life before the start of the series. It is never explained what happened or how, but he lost his memory two years before the sereies starts. At this time his mother also started to abuse him for 'not being Ritsuka' (This was a result of the memory loss). During this time Ritsuka's older brother Seimei protected and took care of Ritsuka. The boy became a surrogate parent as well as someone that Ritsuka felt he could trust and love with all his heart. To Ritsuka, Seimei was the kindest man in the world. He doted on Ritsuka and kept him safe.

One week before the story starts, Seimei is killed and his charred corpse is left sitting at Ritsuka's desk at school. The body had been so badly burnt that the only way they could identify the corpse was by the fact that it was wearing Seimei's school uniform. Ritsuka was devastated by what happened and became even more lifeless and bitter with the world then he had been before his death. The young pacifist vowed revenge on the people who killed his brother.

The only problem with this vow was that he had no idea and no way of finding out who had done the deed. So, even with this honest vow of revenge, he continued his normal life. Because of the memory loss he saw a counselor daily. Her name was Katsuko.

His mother's abuse of him continued, except that now there was no one to protect him. The boy would try to avoid the beatings by memorizing the things that his mother would say that 'Ritsuka' liked and disliked, but when he failed to remember, his mother would beat him until she became tired or hurt herself. Ritsuka would then take care of her before he would go to his room and take care of his own wounds.

Because of the incident he was transferred to another school, but he had no desire to become friends with anyone in his new school. There he meets a spunky young girl (who is VERY developed). The girl's name is Yuiko, and she is always getting used by the other girls because of the fact that she's not very bright.

Ritsuka is initially mean and blunt to her, saying that he doesn't like people like her, but Yuiko is persistent and he ends up allowing her to tag along with him to the library because it seems to allay the teacher's fears. After the teacher leaves, Yuiko tells Ritsuka that he acts like he has a split personality. Because of the situation with his memories, Ritsuka gets furious and tells her not to come with him to the library.

Upon leaving school that day he is caught by a strange older man lurking outside of the school. The man says that he had been waiting for Ritsuka. His name is Soubi Agatsuma and he knew Ritsuka's older brother Seimei. While Ritauka is leery of the man he mentioned Seimei, and that peeks Ritsuka's attention. The boy decides to take Soubi to the park so they can 'make memories' (which is super secret code for taking pictures).

While at the park Soubi kisses Ritsuka and confuses him by asking for a deeper bond and kissing his hand. Ritsuka thinks that this is sketchy and becomes upset by Soubi's actions. Before much else can be said on the matter they are confronted by a pair of kids that aren't much older then Ritsuka. They say that their name is Breathless. Soubi fights and sends them away while holding Ritsuka. Once the battle is over Soubi disappears, leaving Ritsuka angry and confused.

After a few days (He had to visit his therapist and get beaten by his mom first) Yuiko apologizes for what she said before to him. He apologizes as well and the two start to forge a friendship. Outside the school that same day Soubi is waiting again. Ritsuka gives him copies of the pictures they took in the park. The three go to Yuiko’s house and Soubi cooks for them. Soubi walks Ritsuka home and tells him that he will kill the people who killed Seimei. He explains to the boy about fighters and sacrifices and tells him about Seimei’s will.

Ritsuka goes home to look on Seimei’s computer for the will and finds a locked file with his name on it. He asks Soubi his ‘name’ and using the name of Loveless, he is able to enter the will. Inside the pages he learns that it was Seven Moons who killed Seimei and that Soubi, Seimei’s fighter, has been bequeathed to Ritsuka. The revelation devastates Ritsuka.

The next day in school it is revealed to the student body about Ritsuka’s past and his brother’s tragic death. When the boy heard of the news he takes it coldly and tries to push everyone away again. Yuiko follows him and he reveals his feelings on the matter and on how he has no real will to live anymore. Their touching moment is cut short however by Breathless showing up again. They ask Ritsuka to come join Seven Moons. Ritsuka sends Yuiko away and starts to question Breathless about Seimei’s death.

Soubi arrives shortly after the questioning starts and initiates a spell battle. This time Ritsuka is playing the part of a sacrifice in the battle. Ritsuka endures the pain of the battle and even refuses to let Soubi kill Breathless. Soubi leaves with the unconscious pair, leaving Ritsuka alone and confused let again. Ritsuka returns to the classroom and offers to be friends with Yuiko. She agrees and the pair become friends. (This is the first time we see Ritsuka genuinely smile in the series.)

After having made friends with Yuiko Ritsuka seems to get much happier. That happiness is short lived however as another student arrives some time later and starts to pick on him. Yayoi is in love with Yuiko and seems to see Ritsuka as a love rival. At the end of the day Soubi arrives to pick up Ritsuka and Yuiko. Ritsuka starts yelling at Soubi immediately for being away for three days, but Yuiko states that he was at school. Ritsuka also receives a cell phone from Soubi.

That night Soubi enters through Ritsuka’s window and asks him to pierce his ears. Ritsuka at first refuses, but Soubi insists and the boy ends up piercing his ears anyway. Afterward the two get into a fight about Seven Moons. Soubi refuses to tell him anything that he knows about it. Ritsuka throws him out, but gives him an umbrella because it is raining outside and reveals that he has been thinking about Soubi all day. The next day Yayoi asks if he can come along and Ritsuka agrees that he can come make memories with them, but quickly leaves the pair to see Soubi at the gate.

A few days later Breathless shows up again and they talk with Ritsuka about the fact that Soubi cannot be trusted. Soubi and Ritsuka discuss the fact that Ritsuka won’t punish Soubi with any form of violence. During their argument they come against a pair called Sleepless. They have a letter with important information about Seimei’s death. Ritsuka is the sacrifice in another battle and they obtain the letter.

This letter is a code for a video game which connects to Seven Moons. Through the game Ritsuka meets Nana, one of the heads of the Seven Moons. Through her he discovers that Seven Moons has six heads. Through all this he become closer to Soubi. Through text messages and even when Soubi is beaten in his battle with the first Zeros and Ritsuka orders him to tell him where he is. This is also when Ritsuka first meets the Zero boys.

While Soubi is injured, Ritsuka refuses to leave the man’s side. The Zero boys explain to him that if he is not firm, if he can not be depended on as a sacrifice, that Soubi will continue to be hurt. They tell him more about sacrifices and fighters and how to be a good sacrifice. They also have a small discussion on where Loveless’ fighter is. The Zero girls arrive shortly after and challenge Ritsuka to a fight. The boy accepts.

Zero’s sacrifice comes to visit Ritsuka and is the first to put the seeds of doubt about his brother’s perfect and kind nature into his head. She also asks him where his name is written. Ritsuka doesn’t know. He’s never seen his name written anywhere. They also discuss the fact that Ritsuka hates the idea of fighters and sacrifices as well as the idea that someone is destined for just one person.

Ritsuka and Soubi fight the female Zeros and they win. After this Ritsuka doesn’t go home. He stays up every night playing the video game and learning more and more about the his brother and Seven Moons. While talking to them he learns that Seimei may be alive. This devastates him in every way possible. He had finally accepted his brother’s death and now they were revoking it.

When he returns home his mother is having a nervous breakdown. She attacks him, attempts to drown him, and locks herself in a room so she can’t hurt him anymore. Soubi arrives and they receive a call from who his mother says is Seimie. They go to meet the people in the park and meet Fearless. Another battle ensues and they win, but when they return home they find Soubi’s mother passed out on the ground. Through the conversation between Soubi and Ritsuka reveals that Seimei is in fact alive and Ritsuka starts to believe that Soubi in fact knew that Seimei was alive.

When he returns home his mother ties him to a chair to ensure that he can never leave the house again. Soubi enters and begs for Ritsuka to run away with him. Ritsuka says that neither of them will run away and finally decides that he will stay by Soubi’s side and accept Soubi. He gives Soubi a key so that he can enter, even though he has a key already. He throws Soubi’s key away and has an epiphany about how he views people and learning to accept the moment instead of worrying about the future.

Eventually his mother lets him go and Ritsuka continues to learn about Seven Moons through the video game. Later, he tells Soubi to take him to Seven Moons. Ritsuka meets Kio then when they drive to Seven Moons school. The two of them get into a heated argument about Seimei and weather he was a horrible person or not.

Kio tells Ritsuka that if he were to ever see Soubi’s body then he would understand. When they stop, Ritsuka tells Soubi that he has to strip. He wants to see Soubi’s body which is actually covered in scars from Ritsu and Seimei. When he is shown it he can’t believe what he sees. Everything he has ever believed about Seimei is a lie.

They enter the Seven Moons Academy and learns about the thread that connects fighters and sacrifices. Shortly after entering and viewing the tests Seimei and his fighter Nisei show up. Nisei attacks the fighters and sacrifices and Ritsuka tries to defend the two that he knows well. This is the first time that he calls Soubi to his side and Soubi is able to hear him. The pair initiate a spell battle with Nisei Through this battle Ritsuka discovers that Seimei is indeed alive. It is a completely devastating blow to the boy and Nisei uses this against him, but he manages to keep himself together and the pair beat him horribly. This is the moment when Ritsuka claims Soubi as his fighter completely.

After the battle they learn that Seimie has invaded the building and harmed Ritsu. He, as well as they head to the library and meet. Seimei and Ritsuka are reunited once again. The pair embrace and the Zero boys try to bring Ritsuka to their side while Seimei messes with Ritsuka’s mind. Ritsuka starts to break down, but is able to keep himself composed while Seimei escapes, using Soubi’s power to break the window.

Roleplay Sample - Log:

Ritsuka walked the halls of the facility. A cold fear emanated from his body and caused his skin to prickle and chill. He could hear the blood rushing in his head as the adrenalin pounded through his veins. It was painful, feeling this. There was nothing green, nothing like home here, and he knew that he was somewhere that wasn’t home.

Where was Soubi? Where was Seimie? He’d just been there, just been in his brother’s arms, listening to his brother’s voice and surrounded by Soubi and the others. This place felt empty and alone. Like being inside his room before all this had happened. His ears pressed back against his head as he continued forward, his teeth gnashing against his lips as he looked around.

“Hello?” He asked quietly, then again. “Hello?” All he heard was his voice in echo. Here, he felt truly alone. The frown increased as he continued down the hall. It was bright and cold. He was sure that this wasn’t where he was supposed to be. He hated this. He hated the feeling in the pit of his stomach as he realized that neither Soubi nor Seimei were probably here. The aching dull pain that pooled out from the pit of his stomach at the thought of his being alone.

He didn’t want to be alone, his eyes closed slightly, but he didn’t cry. No, he wouldn’t cry. That was weak and wouldn’t help anything. Still, tears pooled at the sides of his eyes that he wiped away. He needed to be strong, to move forward instead of wallowing in how alone he was here. Soubi would come. He’d come and they’d get out. That was what had to happen for them to bring Seimei home.

Roleplay Sample - Journal:

Um. I don’t know if anyone will read this. I don’t know if anyone is here either. If someone can read this I’m looking for someone. I was with a few people. I’m looking for a tall blond man named Soubi. Or an older boy who looks just like me. His name is Seimei. If you see them, can you tell them Ritsuka is looking for him?
