It'll be good to have you with me for my blatherings, haha.
I knoooow! I realized that one day when I was going through LJ Inc's Sales page and figuring out how many of their featured communities were Plus or had ads on them. I don't think ONTD could pay for LJ on its own, but it would definitely make a very nice chunk of change, enough to pay for its resource sucking and probably someone's salary besides. They could even sell brand ads just to display on ONTD.
In many respects LJBook, because it was actually designed with LJ in mind, is miles above Blurb's implementation, which was designed more for regular blogs on places like WordPress and Blogger. Blurb's would be nice if it was designed for LJ, but alas, the shoehorning shows. LJBook's good for people who want to make a printed copy with Lulu. It's also good for people who are confused by other backup options and want a single file containing the contents of their journal. Another nice bonus is the PDF would be searchable, since native LJs aren't. I know that one of Dreamwidth's goals is official PDF files of journals, and I admit sometimes it's tempting to play around with LaTeX templates and see if I can come up with anything good for that.
