Post on the new option to lj_ads.

While it's only a limited test run for now, plus_tester is now displaying this ad option. The future of this option depends on the feedback they get ( Read more... )

It's like watching someone decline from dementia. I find that idea absolutely horrifying. Every time I think they've done their worst, they dig another hole.

Is there a pool somewhere taking bets on when LJ actually folds?

They're only testing it out right now, and it's just one choice of three ones for Plus users to use. Lots of Plus users have been asking for different ways to place the ads. (Although most of them are wedded to S1 styles and are out of luck.)

Now, if they were adding ads in between posts IN ADDITION to the vertical/horizontal ones, I'd be squawking some.

Naaah, it might happen, but not because I said that. In the world of ad optimization and monotenization, I am still splashing in the baby pool and surrounded by Olympic swimmers!

Besides which, they have to be careful about plastering too many ads onto Plus accounts, or the Plus account people will start opting out, unless

1. They don't realize they can opt out
2. They're using ad blocking and don't notice or care
3. The ability to opt out is taken away.

1 & 2 -- yes, they happen, but LJ is a social medium and that tends to lubricate the knowledge of both things spreading a bit.

3. Aaaah, but what if they made it so only NEW accounts couldn't opt out?
