Oct 19, 2006 16:10

TxtLJ for all users with the ampdmobile branding has gone live.

matgb notes: 7daysinasentra has started updating (but is still closed to new members and comments are screened). CProd is promoting LJTalk to all users and the Gizmo Project to non-paid (screenshot).

Not worth a separate post I think, but 7daysinasentra started updating, and c-prod is plugging ljtalk to all, and gizmo project to non-paid (have a screenshot if you want it)

This post is very new, so I'm just going to add the notes to the post above & cite you. (Oh yeah, and I asked once about whether there was any followup by the Clickz.com folks! Just out of curiousity--if not, no worries.)

Actually, no, no further from them, and I hadn't chased as I forgot.

Problem with checking notifications at work is you sometimes can't do anything more about it, then forget. With my memory, that normally means no follow up.

Will mail him again tomorrow.

Oh yeah--I should mention that people who end up with screenshots of things are more than welcome to upload them to the wiki if they want to register there, or just email them to me.

The new posts at 7daysinasentra are a repost of what has been posted on other blogs (the Vox one and the official one). Just saying.

Is LJTalk a sponsored feature?

LJ Talk itself isn't. Gizmo for LJ Talk was made with GizmoProject. That's why you have an ad on the Gizmo for LJ Talk page but not on the LJ Talk page itself I guess.

Since I probably won't be up when it happens: official Vox launch on October 26th.

Y'all are probably on lj_design, too, but if not I wanted to pass along this recent post, in which they announce Piximix themes and icons. I don't understand in what way this post is not itself advertising (Piximix sells t-shirts and things as well as do the webcomic thing), but perhaps I'm just slow. After all, it's only advertising if they tell us it is, right?

Hmm. That one's a bit of a toughie. For instance, I have a hard time imagining Piximix paying Six Apart to do this. It's even possible that Six Apart might be paying Piximix to make these themes. (They appeared on Vox before LJ.) I just can't say. I'm (personally, understand) reluctant to call every collaborative thing with a reference back advertising--for instance, the ability to embed YouTube videos could be called advertising, since they link back to YouTube, but so far the videos themselves do not have advertising in them (if Google changes that I'll be grumped about the Trojan horsin' into LJ posts that way), and I don't think LJ pays YouTube for that priviledge, and neither does YouTube pay LJ.

It's certainly promotional, but are all promotions really advertising?

Fair enough. It's probably not being paid for, certainly, but I found it unusual in style and presentation.

I think what did it for me, at least making it an unusual cross-promotion, was the cumulative effect. The exclamation point-y language, the long "interview," the links to piximix in the icons, using the icons and the theme for the lj_design journal itself, et cetera.

I didn't see that with YouTube, though I might have missed it; video embedding was described as neat, but the OPs didn't link to every possible source of YouTube related materials or praise YouTube. For me, embedding is YouTube advertising/promoting in their script, which lj has to use if they want to do embedding; the OP here using a piximix icon is the OP advertising/promoting piximix.

Oh ick, piximix is a Plus account. I guess they'd have to be if they wanted to use their own designs without paying, but boo.
