New Development: Sponsored Features
There is a new post in lj_biz talking about Sponsored Features and Sponsored Communities.
The first sponsored feature will be SMS integration with LiveJournal. Paid users will see the sponsorship while using the feature. It is "not consider[ed] to be advertising", so I guess that's the rationale for still satisfying the "Paid members will never see any advertising on LiveJournal as long as they're logged in to their account." on the paid accounts feature page.
I suppose this is the first some of these users (many paid/perms) had heard about Sponsored Communities; scienceofsuck was promptly created in retaliation. And antisponsoredlj. And fucksixapart. And sleepscience. And november52006
