Maybe this is a way of easing the ads in, then basic (former free) will be considered among the ranks of early adopters? And possibly be unavailable to new users at a later date?

This would have to be done over time.

This way band width would be paid for all the way around. People who really hate ads will pay and people who don't care and don't pay monies will pay (ads). Maybe this is the new business model?

I am guessing at best.

Hmmm.

Considering 6A is launching a new blogging service (here too) which is apparently going to be free but ad-sponsored, that's quite plausible.

And it seems to me that the "switching to s2 (=s1 will be gone soon)" business is also about making sure that layouts are not screwed up when viewing ads.

I wonder why they're launching a product that will compete with LJ. That's weird. Now, if all the S+ users move to Vox I'll be one very, very happy girl. XD

The irony is, the ads on Vox? Much less obnoxious than the ads on Sponsored+ LJs.

I'm normally one who can lie with facility (is that a good thing?) to get someone off my back, or to avoid having conversations I don't want to have... but promoting this Vox thing? I went to have a look at it and I wasn't seriously impressed. In fact, I think it's quite ugly. Everyone's blog looks the same, there are tiny pictures everywhere (too many), and all the layouts are very linear and plain (i.e. boring).

I don't know that I can bring myself to lie to people about how good it is. On the other hand, I hate advertisements a lot. :)

I don't find it pretty either - I really dislike this type of layout - but as foxfirefey said the ads are much less obnoxious than on S+ LJs. S+ layouts are just...yucky. Vox seems to have plenty of shiny stuff. Useless to me but that some may enjoy.
