As of now, I can't quite bring myself to boycott everyone who opts into the ads -- these people are my friends, after all. I have, however, made my feelings very clear, and for the moment I am refusing to comment on journals that use ads. That should bring around a few people, I think... what's the point of posting entries if nobody wants to comment?

If you want to show an example to your friends of why you don't want to be seeing ads, this is probably a good one. At least for now, the filtering with the Google Text Ads leaves something to be desired; the last thing I want is advertising trying to indicate I'm not sexy naked and that in order to not be embarrassed by my body, I should be drinking their AMAZING WEIGHTLOSS TEA.
I noticed that WordPress was being mentioned in your journal; so far I have pretty high hopes for it as a migration tool. It's extensible with plug-ins. For instance, I'm pretty sure there's an OpenID plugin out there that would allow your LJ friends to comment without registering. I think there's also mechanisms for "friending" posts. It's very popular, and it's open source.

For instance, I'm really digging the whole OpenID framework idea--here's the site. I want to be able to create user friendlists bases on OpenIDs--every LJer has one, so all your LJ friends could be included. I want to be able to filter posts on my list of friended OpenIDs, or enable commenting from only people with OpenIDs or people whose OpenIDs I have friended. I want to be able to make an OpenID account on LJ based on my blog and be friended and comment on entries of my friends. With OpenID, it's possible. It's decentralized and under YOUR control, not a service or company's.
