First Week Back

I'm taking C/Am 200 (Intro to Canadian Studies), Econ 206 (Intro to Microeconomics), History 103 (American History to 1865), Saxophone Lessons and Symphonic Band.

So far, so good! All of my classes (except for the music ones) are lecture style, so they're bearable. The professors are all interesting enough. Prof. Sleeman (Econ) is 68, and often discusses his imminent death. "As I'm much more likely to croak than you lot, I ought to prepare you! If I do so happen to croak during a lecture, feel free to leave the classroom. One of you ought to tell someone that there's a cadaver in Science Lab 150."

I'm already learning new things in my American History class. Christopher Colombus thought that he was on a mission from God to "convert the heathens" and bring about the second coming of Christ. America was named after "Amerigo Vespucci" (I think that's how it's spelled), who wrote accounts of his daring adventures as captain of several exploration missions. Turns out, Vespucci was a volunteer sailor, a lowly deckhand most of the time. xD However, the most prominent cartographer of the day LOVED Vespucci, and believed everything that he said, so when he was drawing the "New World", he named it after Amerigo. Even if people thought Amerigo was full of shit, they had maps with "America" as the "New World" because the other guy made the best maps.

Band is cool. Dr. Bianco is our new band director, which I'm completely psyched about. He's funny and an excellent band director (he directs the TOP band at Western, too), so I hope we improve. :)

Charity's boyfriend is coming up for the weekend, and Destiny is supposed to visit on Monday. It should be an excellent next couple of days!
