so fake your death / and i'll fake mine

a couple of notes, just as a placeholder for proper entries - you know, detailed and witty and produced at not 4am-headache-o'clock.

• started RIVERS OF LONDON; already charmed. i ordered the entire series published so far, and the first book took the longest to arrive of all 5. the universe is funny and it also wants to remind me what it's like to yearn to start a new book. probably.

• speaking of books and yearning, CALL ME BY YOUR NAME has a film adaptation (!!!) and the sundance reviews are making me want to weep with longing for a release date of, oh, yesterday. armie hammer is going to destroy fandom with this movie, i fear; his instagram alone is a masterclass in farmer's market/new dad hotness/torture. i've seen chalamet on stage last year in prodigal son - the play was the unfortunate kind of dialogue-heavy autobiography, but the performances were excellent - and he was quite intense and captivating. (robert sean leonard's character falls for him, which means he'd done two projects last year in which older academic guys get seduced by him, and that's... not the worst typecasting, is it.)

• i've been doing short reviews on show-score and, as a result of reaching some level or other, am now getting regular offers of free or cheap theater tickets. they're always last minute, and usually for shows that need word-of-mouth exposure, but that does make it easier to go by myself (since most of my locals need more of a heads up, and also i don't like dragging my friends to experimental productions - my tolerance level for that stuff is hiiiigh). anyway, last year i saw 25 shows total, or about 2 per month; this year i'm already at twice the average. january rec: FADE at primary stages, a.k.a. that's how you write a dialogue-heavy autobiographical play, holy smokes. (all the intersectionality helps, too.)

• there's a practical limit to the kinds of demonstrations i can participate in, and while last saturday was great, i couldn't go to jfk today since it wasn't a planned march; no permit equals higher odds of arrests. it sucks and it makes me feel angry and useless, although i know rationally that donations and signal boosts and fannish cheer-sharing also help, to an extent. it just doesn't feel right, not being in the middle of things physically a la the protest culture of my formative years... well. fingers crossed this headache lets up by tomorrow and there's a permit for battery park.

• speaking of fannish cheer, festivids are out! hooray, fandom! (if i hadn't spent... well, more than my discretionary budget on various donations this month, i'd totally bid in the vidukon auction.)

• oops, almost forgot: teevee and headache refused to mix today so i've only seen a little bit of the RIVERDALE pilot, but - they used a santigold song, which means i'll have to give it a try. eventually.

and that's that for now. happy weekend, all. ♥
