We’ve all seen stand up comedians who have to deal with hecklers in the crowd. Well, for some reason, you have a heckler in your life today, and they won’t shut up or leave you alone. How do you deal with that?
Alexa’s stepbrother, Spike, has no filter between his brain and his mouth. If a thought, question or inappropriate story popped into the former, it was going to come out of the latter, and usually at the worst possible times.
It started at the airport, where Alexa had gone to pick up both Spike and Mira, her old roommate from college, because their flights were arriving less than an hour apart. Spike and Mira knew each other fairly well, though they had never dated. Spike had always thought Mira was stuck up, and Mira always thought Spike was a flake. Mira wasn’t stuck up at all, she was just not one to get outrageously loose and party with people she barely knew. Spike, on the other hand, was flakier than a four-day-old croissant. Thus, the entire time that they were gathering bags and driving back to the beachhouse, Spike kept a running commentary going, filled with bad jokes and stories of Alexa’s new hubby and the night spent with Byron. Glares and protests from Alexa didn’t slow Spike down, in the least. Mira was chuckling, as Spike described everything from the club to Byron’s…err…assets. While perhaps Byron might have enjoyed the complimentary description, Mira was just amused.
When they got to the house, Mark was out somewhere, so she settled Mira in the biggest guest room, and put Spike in the study, just in case Stelios came. She shut the door and soundly scolded her hypermouthed brother, warning him about repeating his porno stories with Stelios or Mark, and then went in to make dinner with Mira. Spike came in and sat on the barstool, and kept yammering on, like he was a girlfriend or something. He joked. He sang. He talked about shoes, hair and Jennifer Aniston. Finally, the girls had enough!
“Hey, Alexa, remember that guy who used to date Brandy, the one who hit on us all the time when she was gone?” Mira grinned evilly at Alexa over the rim of her fourth glass of sangria.
Alexa gave her a blank look, until the memory dawned on her. “Oh…OH! Oh, god, I haven’t thought about him in YEARS! The one we were going to have the ‘orgy’ with?” Alexa laughed, shaking her head, as she brushed the kabobs with marinade.
“Oh, Spike…how would you like to go skinny dipping?” Mira snuggled up close to Alexa’s brother, her black hair brushing him as she whispered in his ear. Alexa almost choked, when she saw Spike…umm…react.
About an hour later, Mark got home, and the two women were sitting on the large couches, quietly chatting and catching up on each other’s lives, while working on more of the potent sangria. Spike was in Mark’s study, naked and hog-tied, lying on the sofa, a gag gently tied so he could breathe comfortably, but that he couldn’t talk.
