Personality: Back in the Sonic Adventure 2 game, Shadow's personality was a bit deeper. He's quieter, only speaking when needed, doesn't like to waste time, and is quite serious compared to his blue rival. However, he's not completely humorless, as he can be seen smiling on occasion, though it's not a sincere smile, more of a "I'm going to kick your ass" smile, or a very cocky-grin. When Shadow smiles, it's a bad thing. Due to his past, Shadow often falls into flashbacks, which tend to have him space-out in the real world, or become very melancholy, or even say a few things out loud that others can hear. If he's caught doing this, he tends to clam up and not say a word to anyone, or just leave.
Unlike Sonic, Shadow doesn't care who he hurts or what he has to do to get a job done. His goal is to destroy Earth to have revenge on the humans who killed everyone that mattered to him, so he's not about to care about who he has to go through to reach this goal. Shadow's dark, but somewhat cocky nature more than likely comes from the fact that he is the world's ultimate life form, and thus he feels he is better than everyone else. His pride is challenged, however, when he must face Sonic, who rivals his own strength, something Shadow is quite interested by.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Shadow is the Ultimate Life Form, and once believed to be the Ultimate Weapon. He can travel faster than the speed of sound (speed that rivals Sonic's), use a warping ability called "Chaos Control", which essentially is a way to slow time around everything but himself, letting him "warp" to destinations more quickly. This ability can only be used if he has a Chaos Emerald with him or if one is nearby. Shadow is good at close combat as well as from a distance, where he is able to roll into a ball and perform the Spin Dash, a skill he can use in order to travel quickly and/or run into his enemy. He also has the Homing Attack, which allows him to roll into a ball and home in on his target to attack them. On his left wrist, he wears the Flame Ring, which allows him to, when doing a somersault, become enveloped in flames and roll into a target, causing heavy damage (It's also good for destroying metal crates! :D). Though in later games it's made known that Shadow is unable to die, in SA2, it's not made clear. I'm going to say that he can die from fatal wounds, such as to the heart or other such important organs, also drowning and burning up in the atmosphere, etc would be enough to kill him. Suffocation, being stabbed, etc etc. One of Shadow's attacks is called "Chaos Spear", where he shoots bolts of chaotic energy at his enemies, dealing heavy damage. And finally, Shadow is able to breath in space, as well as the other Sonic characters who aren't human, and it's not explained how or why. Unrelated to skills, Shadow doesn't waste any time talking, he's quite good at getting to the point, and he's really quite useful in getting things done. For Shadow, if you have time to talk about it, you have time to get it done.
In route, however, Shadow is human and has lost any items that he had with him, as well as his special abilities, which leaves him quite bare compared to how he was before in terms of strengths. However, in Route, he'll be able to use his brains rather than his brawn in many situations. He's cold, strategic, and though he physically looks young, he's got fifty years under his belt (though spent frozen). Shadow won't let emotions get in his way of his mission, but can one truly call that a strength? Shadow is also very knowledgeable about technology and is a quick learner, never shunning new developments and instead using them to his own advantage. Like Sonic, Shadow is also capable of grinding rails and boarding. Despite no longer having his speed, Shadow has jet-powered skates that add a bit of speed to his movements. Whether or not he has those in Route is unclear. (?)
For weaknesses, pretty much the loss of all his prior abilities, even his skills he had as a hedgehog (heightened hearing, smell), and any items he had on him (Flame Ring), he's lost all his vital skills. He can't rely on them anymore, and even his abilities of being the "Ultimate Life Form" have weakened him. His signature move "Chaos Spear" is also gone, leaving him as just a regular human. This also plays a part in his weakness, as he despises humanity (safe for Maria), and now to be trapped in a human form will have had a major effect on his ego. Though he won't trip over himself every time it is mentioned, he's constantly battling with his inner hatred. Shadow still has a large weakness for damsels in distress, and will rescue them if he has to, otherwise he's haunted by the memory of Maria's death, reminding him constantly that he couldn't save her back then. Finally, Shadow still can't swim. He doesn't despite water like Sonic seems to, but he'll not risk drowning either.

To those who brought me here, I have already read the handbook. If it's your wish that I play this little game of yours, then so be it. Though I recommend you don't underestimate me; I am not someone you want to play games with for long. Using monsters to battle each other in order to see who will be victorious... Is there some sort of lesson to be given to us? Hmph. How pathetic. [ He flips the PokeGear closed and looks down at the dog Pokemon beside him. ] You, let's go. Hanging around here is a waste of time.

Shadow, I beg of you...
Maria.
Her words still echoed strongly in the corners of his mind, he would never be free of her wish. Shadow stood amongst the grass just outside of New Bark Town, looking over his new form. He hated it. How could he find any form of love for this body he now possessed? Was this some sort of sick joke? A cruel irony bestowed upon him? His promise to Maria, to kill the people of the planet Earth, those miserable humans that only thought of themselves and killed others to strengthen that belief.
But now he himself was human, also. He dared not show his frustratrion to those around him, but inside, anger burned red hot. Someone thought to make his life, his one true mission into a game. Someone meant to ridicule him, and what he held dear. That someone was going to regret messing with Shadow. There were only two humans he loved and cherished, thought of them like family, wanted to protect them no matter what the cost...
But they were both dead now. Both of them...
Shadow could not have any love for himself, not at all. He'd survived when they died, he didn't belong in this world... Not without them. But here he was... and now, to make it all worse, he was in the body of a human. He frowned, taking out the single Pokeball clinging to his belt, eying it. He would now play their game, and he wouldn't disappoint. Throwing the Pokeball, Shadow commanded forth his partner, Houndour. The devil-dog landed on all fours and let out a mighty bark, before turning to heed its master's call.
The Ultimate Lifeform took a step forward, then pointed at a nearby tree.
"Burn it down with Ember."
The Pokemon looked a little surprised at first, but without another moment's hesitation, it turned to said tree and took in a breath. "DOUR!" it barked, launching forth a powerful ember attack, causing the tree to suddenly catch the ball of fire, immediately getting scorched, its leaves and branches crackling in the flame. Shadow watched as the tree burned before him, and he didn't care.
There was not an ounce of compassion or pity in his soul.
