DPP: The make it fit fic-meme weekend of fun!!!!

Morning ladies and fanfolks :D (Well, it's almost afternoon here) I am posting early for two reasons - 1) I am going out. and 2) MOAR TIME FOR FICTIONS!!! which is always a good thing.

This is my final DPP this week and it is, indeed, yes, it is, a FIC MEME. An IN CANON fic meme inspired by some of the comments from the week's DPP discussions, and

I know, it's not my favourite plot device either, but what redeems it to some degree IMO is the fact that she really does look heartbroken and like she's trying really hard to hold it together in front of him, when she makes that speech about not coming back. And this is all down to Sackhoff and Bamber, because otherwise it's so flat on the page - their faces are what sell it for me.

It's like, she actually said her goodbyes to everyone else, but she couldn't quite manage it for him and my fannish heart says it's not because she didn't love him, it's because he meant too much. At least that's the interpretation I go with (that and the "see you on the other side" in Maelstrom-induced hopefulness). But yeah, watching early pilots after being faced with the knowledge of later seasons, they just make me want to scoop them up and lock them away somewhere safe (together of course, in the hope that maybe they'll frak each other's brains out and not be able to do a runner this time).

She also smiles for about twenty seconds during the mutiny, I mean, sucky circumstances, sure, but she enjoyed it a little bit :)

She was positively glowing when she hopped out of her Viper after coming back from the dead too. That makes all of three times she actually looks happy during the season, then - still pathetic.
