Frequently Asked Questions
HOW DO WE PLAY?:
The newnewyork is for posts that won't involve too many people. This includes journal entries, action entries, video entries, or audio entries.
The newnewyorklogs is for longer posts that will involve a bunch of people.
The newnewyorkooc is for any out of character posts you may feel you need to put up. This can include introductions, questions for other players, or, really ANYTHING.
HOW THE HELL DO WE TAG OUR ENTRIES?!
In the main community, you will need to post with your characters name/version (character name{au/au rp/cb/cb rp/head}).
For the log community, you simply need to tag with your character's name/version.
OOC community needs no tags. Except the mod posts, but you guys aren't doing those~
ARE POWERS LIMITED AT ALL?
Currently, there are no power limits in place. We are being stupid and trusting that everyone will respect our first rule, and keep themselves in check. If needed, powers will be limited for individual characters.
CAN POSTS BE LOCKED/HIDDEN/CUT TO ONE PERSON OR GROUP?
Yes, they can be. But, for the sake of allowing everyone to interact with as many people as possible, we do ask that you keep these sorts of entries to a minimum.
I'VE NEVER WATCHED FUTURAMA. SHOULD I DO THAT BEFORE JOINING?
First off, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?! HOW CAN YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED IT?! *ahem* Please pardon that outburst.
Yes, it is highly recommended that you watch the series before applying here. Besides allowing you to better understand just what will be going on here, it'll also be a hell of a lot of fun.
WHAT'S WITH THIS WEIRD "VERSIONS" THING?
Okay, as stated over in the Rules, this is an AU/Canon Based/RP Based roleplay. Now, here's some explanations for what that means to you and your muses.
AU (ALTERNATE UNIVERSE): This means that your muse is an alternate version of the character. They can be from the Futurama universe, or from a completely different one. If you go for this, please try your best to translate their history accordingly. You need to be able to adequately come up with a history for them that explains why they're who they are, and how they got like this. If you're going with an AU, but not Futurama universe, then you need to figure out how your muse got to the Futurama universe. Please do take into consideration that this does not mean you get to make up an alternate personality for them. You can certainly talk to a mod about that, but you need to make a damn good argument.
CANON BASED: This means that your muse has somehow made it from their canon universe into the Futurama universe. How this happens is completely up to you, but if you're really stuck for ideas, then feel free to ask the mods for ideas. This also means that their history needs to be completely canon. However, this does not mean that you need to only write about their history before canon. If it's not mentioned anywhere in canon, don't talk about it. This history should simply be about what happens and is mentioned in canon. THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE CANON VERSION, UNLESS THE CHARACTER HAS VASTLY DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THEMSELVES WITHIN CANON. IE: ANY REBORN CHARACTER. SO UNLESS THIS OPTION IS AVAILABLE FOR A CHARACTER, IT'S FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE.
RP (ROLEPLAY) BASED: Yes, yes, we do realize this one sounds a bit strange. It's a bit like AU and CB rolled into one. If you are, or have, played a character at another roleplay, you are welcome to apply them as having come from there. If the rp you are bringing your muse from is an AU rp, then you need to include the AU history that you wrote up, along with some of the things that they did in the rp. If the rp you are bringing your muse from was a CB rp, then you need to write their canon history, along with what they did in that rp. Again, you are welcome to come up with your own ways of how they ended up in the Futurama universe.
IF I'M JOINING AS A FUTURAMA UNIVERSE VERSION, CAN MY CHARACTER BE A HEAD IN A JAR?
That depends. Does your character do anything that could make them famous or important? Can you think of a way for them to do something like that, and stay in character? If so, then by all means, go for it. Just keep in mind that they'll most likely have to stay at the Head Museum unless someone is nice enough to carry them around.
THE RULES SAY I CAN'T INTERACT WITH MY OWN CHARACTERS. CAN I INTERACT WITH DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF MY CHARACTERS?
By all means, please do! This entire roleplay is meant to be chock full of crack, which is why there's the different versions.
WHAT EXACTLY IS IN NEW NEW YORK?
Well, it's basically New York... Only in the future. There's New New York on the surface, and under the streets is Old New York, the ruins of the present day city. As for actual locations within the city and universe, the Futurama Wikipedia page is chock full of information. There is also our Guide to the Known Universe. You are also free to make up "future" versions of companies that are presently existing. Or, hell, make up completely new ones. Just keep in mind that MomCorp owns everything. Even your scrawny ass.
