Uh.. wow. Okay, so according to the official author's website for one of my favorite authors, George R. R. Martin, I think my mother may have actually picked up one of his original edition books, at a garage sale. I think she paid around $10 for it. According to his website, if that's the correct edition(I'd have to get back to Illinois to check the bloody thing), it's worth somewhere in the $200-$600 range.

If that's correct, that'd be a rather nice surprise. Still would like to find editions of Tolkien from back when the books were black hardcover with the Eye of Sauron picked out in metallic thread.
