I was on my way to a birthday lunch with the family and my vision was super blurry like I had a film over it.  So I flipped down the visor to look and that is what I saw.  I calming said.  Umm....guys something is wrong I think I need to go to the hospital.

So we did a u turn and headed to the ER.  I got out and went through the the x ray machine setting my purse down for him to search...I went to the desk and told them...My name is Megan I am 30 years old I had surgery here on Wednesday and now one of my pupils is huge.  They took me back immediately no triage no insurance no registration.  Straight back for vitals a doctor met me in the room....

Obviously the main concern was a stoke from a post op blood clot.  I was terrified and started crying I was just so overwhelmed and without thyroid hormones the emotional status is going to just keep getting worse.  I was shaking my blood pressure was through the roof but I passed the stroke test.  They took me in for a Cat scan with and without contract because there were several concerns an Aneurysm being one damage to the carotid artery another since I had just had surgery.  The scans were crazy never had anything like that before.  My brain was fine though nothing abnormal.

They were going to release me with a generic diagnosis of....attia disease or something like that that women between 20 and 40 can sometimes just have a huge pupil for a while. While they were talking with an eye doc at another hospital to rule things out a nurse popped her head in.  Said she works the other side of the ER but overheard the docs at the nurses station discussing my case...and she came to ask if I have a problem with nausea after surgery.  I said yes.  She asked if they gave me a patch behind my ear.  I said Yeah they told me to leave it on for three days so I took it off this morning....

Apparently the stuff in the motion-sickness patch is similar to the medicine docs use to dilate your eyes and when I took it off I got some on my finger and must have touched my eye!!

HOLY CRAP!!

This was something even the doctors had not thought of asking about and since it was not a pill I was taking I didn't think of it when asking about meds!  I want to make sure anyone who reads this knows this can happen because I thought something was seriously wrong with me.

Especially since I might not have shared this but I had nightmares this time before surgery that the surgery would make me blind.  I knew intellectually it wouldn't it could and almost stole my voice  (they found a tumor wrapped around my vocal nerves when they removed the left side.  Surgeon said he was surprised to see it and it was 'tedious' but he was very careful to try and not damage the nerve.) but it wouldn't make me blind....I thought  I sat in an er gurney outside of Catscan waiting my turn thinking   "Ok I can compromise I know I have the good cancer, I know I am should be fine in a year or less, I can give up one eye.  You can have it...I don't need it take the eye take the sight but please please please do not take my brain.  PLEASE."

I need to make a serious offering soon for my eyes and my brain.

cancer, thyroid, megan's a dork
