history: The union of Warren and Nadalia, both strong-minded individuals from decidedly different backgrounds, was never one that would have been described as fated or meant to last - they had married at the urging of his parents upon finding out she was pregnant, and things had never been as good between them as they were in the first few months of their young flings.
But they were nothing if not stubborn, and while the marriage was relatively distant, the birth of their daughter was still followed by a second child three years later. It took another five years for things to finally crumble, even the sturdiest of resolve no match for the flood that came when Warren lost his job, turned to drinking, and was eventually caught with his pants quite literally down, another woman kneeling before him. Nadalia, tough as nails and willing to suffer much for the sake of what semblance of stability having a father figure brought to her children, wasn't one to take such a slight, and Warren found himself picking his belongings up off the sidewalk in front of their suburban house before he had even had a chance to give in to that anger he had always been so prone to.
Noah was six years old the last time he saw his father, backing away from the slammed front door, screaming in pained anger and clutching his bleeding nose as his mother calmly flipped the locks, wiped the blood from her knuckles, and, in that soft Portuguese purr she saved exclusively for her children, instructed he and his sister to go to their room and behave themselves until she came to get them. After hours of flashing police lights glaring through the window and shouts resonating even above the loud clanging of pop songs blaring out of Danielle's radio, their mother finally came to the door along with their Aunt Cintia, as composed as ever but for the red rimming around her eyes and the burgeoning bruise shining on her cheek. None of them ever mentioned that night, or their father, again to one another.
When his father stepped out of their lives, however, Sienna, Warren's older sister Noah had never met prior to that summer, the third of the Summerby siblings he had only ever heard his prickly paternal grandparents refer to as 'that Muggle-loving blood traitor', came out of the woodworks, along with her husband and their young son. From then on, his Uncle Beckett and Aunt Sienna (and, of course, his little cousin Reid) became a near-constant presence in the single-parent family's life. Where Nadalia ran out of rope or steam or time to take on both a full-time, demanding career as a member of the Wizengamot and take care of two children, either the Abbotts or the Chambers weren't far to lend a hand, run carpool, or arrange sleepovers and unplanned dinners. Not quite the typical family unit, but, having always been a sociable and energetic child (when, that it, it wasn't being tempered by his father's seemingly always simmering anger), Noah thrived for having a constant supply of companions and playmates.
Once his first year at Hogwarts came along, Noah was instantly sorted into Hufflepuff (as opposed to his sister's Gryffindor three years prior), and was joined the next year by both his cousin Hannah and her and Reid's tagalong friend Susan. It was at the end of his second year that his beloved Aunt Sienna passed away, leaving a lopsided gaping hole in their complicated family unit. Despite the fact that they were separated by sorting when Reid started at school that next year, barely two months after losing his mom, Noah always made sure to stick close enough to his little cousin, to serve as a hovering guardian of sorts and a deterrent for bullies.
Noah thrived well enough even in his younger years at school, his general affability usually making up for what he lacked in grace or witty charm. Not the best of students (a short attention span and an abundance of nervous energy were to blame, mostly), but certainly not the worst, he did his best in the subjects that didn't involve sitting at a desk and cramming through textbooks. He finally earned a spot (albeit, under rather tragic circumstances) on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, taking up the sadly vacated position of Seeker for his 6th and 7th years, even as the world outside the walls of the school was crumbling down.
At the beginning of his seventh year, the growing tragedies of the escalating war reached his family when his Aunt Cintia was killed, with no reason or explanation made available to either the public or her family due to the nature of her work. Hannah was pulled from school, and though he offered to leave himself to at the very least provide some support, Nadalia, strong-minded and firm as always even in the most dire and heartbreaking circumstances, would hear nothing of it. He graduated without much fanfare, both grades and graduations at that point paling in comparison to the chaos he was being cast into.
Noah spent that first year out of school digging his heels in against Voldermort's supporters, fighting the ever-growing presence of Darkness in the Ministry and every day life in what ways he could. He and his mother housed runaway Muggleborns, implanting themselves into a network of safe houses that hid and provided for those unfairly displaced and prosecuted, helping to sneak many of them out to mainland Europe (Nadalia's extended family still firmly resided in Portugal, with some distant relations even spread further out to the Azores and Brazil) and America, where Voldemort's hold wasn't nearly as steady.
When the Final Battle came to Hogwarts, Noah was one of many students that returned to stand by his school and schoolmates, including his cousins and younger friends.
Once the dust had settled, Noah did what just about everyone somehow had to do - go back to the way things were. He applied to the Ministry, eventually getting in as a Junior Assistant in the more flippant branches of the Department of Magical Games and Sports (Official Gobstones Club, to be exact), slowly working in and up over the years. He is currently the Assistant to the Head of the Department, lives in a flat in East London with his dog Jasper, and lives life very much the way he always has - with a smile on his face and always a kind word or a helping hand to offer.
