Here is my mind-set.
I find myself focusing solely on this point in life with hardly any thought for the future. By focusing on the Present time slides by faster. The sooner May rolls around the sooner I am a free and happy.
The other night we had some things happen in the middle of the night indicating an attack on the base was at hand. Moments later I am wearing my body armor, carrying all the ammo I can carry and armed with my rifle and a thermal imager waiting for the unexplainable to happen. The rest of the base populace were hurried into secure bunkers and all the lights in the base were cut off so that those of us tasked with protecting the base could do our job. The following hours of silence and darkness were filled with much waiting and simmering adrenaline. Nothing came of it all and eventually we all had to stand down but it definitely was an experience to remember.
My, how life changes. I wonder what the future holds...
