I have been orientated enough.
I have been talked at (not to, it was definitely at) for days now. People here have yet to play the stuck-up superiority card. No one has read me their resume yet. Everyone seems to have a sense of humor instead of the expected stick up their collective asses. I like this. My supervisor for orgo lab (which is what I'm TAing)... not sure what he thinks of me. I had to prepare a talk on thin layer chormatography, which is a lame-ass procedure in the grand scheme of things, but it's very easy to talk about. So I delivered, and it went over very well. I asked questions of the "class," highlighted key concepts, drew diagrams, and went above and beyond the sad excuse for an orgo lab manual.
Which brings me to an interesting point. The orgo lab manual for UM is TOTAL BULLSHIT. They have to learn THE TINIEST fraction of what we were responsible for as undergrads. Minimal terminology, minimal concepts... it's like The Little Golden Book: My First Orgo Lab of organic lab manuals. UM grads apparently walk away with nowhere near the knowledge of those who endure at least NYU's grueling organic course. I mean, we had a whole separate textbook for orgo lab... textbook as in big hardcover book with a shitload of info in the pages that we had to know? These guys don't even have to write a fucking lab report! They fill out a paper and hand it in! No full writeup, nothing!
!!!!hfuiewyhpwh gurshgiaerteap!!!!
Not even a writeup.
But one nice thing was when an orgo II lab TA gave a presentation on ortho-para substitution and asked a question, the answer just flew out of me. It was like a reflex. All that insanity, stress, time, and stomach acid was worth something, because I fucking know my shit. It rocked.
So yeah. I'm fucking tired right now. The orgo wing with the new sexy labs is an icebox. I just want to take a nap, but I know that's a bad idea bc I won't be able to sleep later on. Our group has to complete two labs tomorrow, and I have to study those. Wish I could go to the gym. Ugh. :-P
I'm a lazy flabass.
