MS Ride

I just got back from my ride for MS and it was a tough one.

I started off yesterday with a light 100 mile ride. We rode from Irvine (near John Wayne Airport) in 45 degree weather along the coast through Dana Point and San Onofre along the old Hwy 101 (which is beautiful) through a few miles of Camp Pendleton, and then made it for lunch in Oceanside. We then turned inland for a huge loop into the hills around Lake San Marcos and ended up in Rancho Santa Fe. These hills were brutal. You would think that the ride out of the hills would be nice and easy, since it's all down hill, but it wasn't. There was such a strong headwind that I had to peddle as hard as I could down a steep grade just to hit maybe 10-15 miles an hour. Finally I made it down to Encinitas and started the trek back to Oceanside where the festivities (and our hotel) were. Dinner was great - 6 inch roast beef sandwich, nice full helping of chips and chili, big dollop of potato salad, a mound of tri tip, and some BBQ chicken. Then it was to the hotel for a soak in the
Today was a 50 mile ride from Oceanside to the top of Torrey Pines (a pretty big hill but not as bad as Saturday's hills), to La Jolla (beautiful beachs) where my dad nearly got hit by a crazy guy in a blue Toyota and I skidded into the back of him, around a residential neighborhood with huge beautiful houses, to Sail Bay, and finally made our way around the bay to Mission Bay!

Total time spent on the bike was 13.5 hours with only 1 accident! It was a great ride and I can't wait to do it again next year. I couldn't have done it without the support of all of my family and friends. Speaking of support, I was able to rase $792.00! So I must give you a HUGE thank you to all of those who helped me reach my goal and for donating to a great cause.
