Computers are increasingly getting picky about the passwords people use. Earlier I spent 10 minutes trying to change both my undergraduate computer science and computer service accounts so a friend could access them, who has now graduated (I have since put the passwords back to their normal password values). Computing Service won't let you have more than 8? How crazy.

The CS linux install on laptops is fun at the moment - it things our server root password is too weak! I have no idea how to satisfy that one, and have complained on behalf of users that can't change their password - which we set by default to something rather weak (and we can set it so, since root can set passwords even if passwd thinks they're crap)

Computing services policy of 6-8 and a boat load of restrictions does seem really weird.

Glad to see that the support people are having similar problems - hopefully that will mean that something gets fixed :-)
