Logic puzzles...

shadeofnight posted a logic puzzle:

There are 3 black hats and 2 white hats in a box. Three men (we will call them A, B, & C) each reach into the box and place one of the hats on his own head. They cannot see what color hat they have chosen. The men are situated in a way that A can see the hats on B & C's heads, B can only see the hat on C's head and C cannot ( Read more... )

Yes, I'm a gamer... arashinomoui September 10 2007, 15:17:58 UTC
Obviously, the answer to the last is to apply enough plastic explosive to open the door. If the door isn't open, you obviously didn't use enough plastic explosive.

And/or start knee capping till one of the damn guards gets up from their bridge game and opens the door.

I like that approach, but the puzzle was from an online RPG, so you have to play it as it lays. (You can't attack the guards, or bypass the door without the code.)

I don't mind logic puzzles like that one, it's the dozen or so illogic puzzles you have to solve during that quest that sent me scrambling for the wiki. Most of them rely on having one specific item, out of thousands in the game, to pass each stage. Booo-ring!

*Chuckle* I figured it was from a set piece - the main reason why I can play a first person shooter all day; but give me something with a plot and I can't stand it, because then I go into RPG mode and I just get annoyed.

Plus, I get bored with logic puzzles; I generally can sus out how to get it done and then get bored working out the pattern to the end. Plus I'm slow at it, and there are generally people who finish it faster. :)

I enjoy some puzzles, but I don't enjoy going through a precise but seemingly arbitrary or nonsensical pantomime. That's why I don't like most "racing" game stages. They're pantomimes in real time - going through a pre-set path with enough experience and dexterity to hit all the ramps, turbos, etc. It's a lot more fun when there are many different ways to complete any given task. I still like Katamari Damashii, though, because it has enough flexibility in how you complete the levels. Plus I like to hear the people and animals scream when you roll them up. :>

Perhaps not, but I think "lawyer" is slightly above "gamer" on the "logical, precise and detail-oriented" scale, so you're more than qualified here. ;)

Obviously C is wearing a black hat, because A can see that B and C are either wearing black and white (not necessarily respectively) or black and black, so A doesn't know. If C was wearing white, then B must be wearing black and would know, but B doesn't, so B could be wearing either white or black and C must be wearing black and will know due to the answers of A and B.

I don't have time to determine the human flesh problem at the moment, but maybe on the bus tonight...
