Getting old is waking up on New Year's Day with a hangover, not from drinking too much but from eating most of a bag of pretzels and not getting enough water. Is that lame or what? Speaking of lame, did I mention the time I threw my back out reading?
Later that day (I think) geekchick and I went to the movies with little_bitti and _brightshadow_. Afterwards we did a weird and went to Amphora Diner when it wasn't the middle of the night. Tres disorienting!
Last night I got dressed up and went to Chronos (more info here), a goth/industrial night at Club Five, with hyperscoot, blushing_grace and a bunch of their friends. It's a smallish space, but a pretty nice one and not too crowded; ditto wrt the dancefloor. The sound system was interesting, it wasn't too hot, and I especially liked that it was non-smoking. Some say the smoking ban will hurt business, but it makes me a lot more likely to go clubbing. When I was a raver I really appreciated the relatively few non-smoking events. I don't mind sweat at all but I HATE smelling like smoke.
I didn't use earplugs much because they made it hard to converse and it wasn't killer loud. I semi-regret that now but it's hardly the worst I've ever treated my ears; we're not talking Frankie Wilde here. They're mostly back to normal now but I suppose I should go find the vinpocetine.
Before going to the club I swung by happy hour, where I ran into elkor, margoeve, tndrheart and a bunch of other folks. Quote of the evening: "And I just like looking at penises". (You kinda had to be there but margoeve got it right away.)
The weather last night was awesome for walking around downtown; a temperature display in Dupont Circle said 59F, at midnight! I wish I'd had more time to just walk around in the city. It had obviously rained out in the suburbs but not a drop fell on me all night. :)
On the train home I accidentally inspired morbid fascination in a couple of tipsy vanilla women because I hadn't taken my claw rings off. They feared to watch touch... yet they could not turn away. :>
I got home sore and tired but I had a great time! I IMed with he_who_wanders for a bit while I caught up on food and water. I'd barely eaten all day and was dehydrated too so the glass of ban no sake was perhaps unclever, but it doesn't seem to have done me any harm.
