They are such a great team together - irrespective of what Joss Whedon finally does with the finale and future of Bangel, I will always feel that Spike was the best consort and that they would be the ideal "Royal Couple" - that Spike could take Buffy at her darkest and also give her back her lost strength, that is what a true love and partnership is.
I find it rather difficult to understand that anyone could ever think Buffy's relationship with Angel/Angelus was a good thing. Once Buffy made the choice, in full intellectual capacity and free will to offer Faith's life in exchange for Angel's - to actually go with full intent to bring Faith as a life sacrifice and to thrust that incredible knife into Faith's gut - I could never again accept her love as healthy.
Some fans always want to bring in the "obsessive love" applied to Spike, but choices in this incident to me shows how misguided and out of control she became about Angel.
Buffy is many ways is a very ill young woman when it comes to her understanding of love and her needs in love. Her love for Angel/Angelus has haunted her all these years.
More and more, this story feels to me like Buffy in dreaming herself -
