Texas wildfires

Sep 05, 2011 23:51

The wildfires are getting more and more out of control. We even had one here in town about 3 miles from where I live but they managed to get it under control. The one in Bastrop (about an hour from me) is nowhere near contained, and the three counties south of me--Grimes, Waller and Leon--all are on fire. Stepping outside, you can smell the smoke and the sky is hazy. If you can spare a thought, please think of all those who have lost everything they own. Ignore the ugly link... here's an NPR story on the fires. Luckily I wasn't evacuated with the fire in town Sunday. It's really, really bad here. We need rain and lots of people need help. The Bastrop animal shelter has relocated their animals to Austin, but many people are looking for a place to send their livestock as these fires encroach on their land. It's very dry here, and windy (leftovers from Lee).
