It's been a bit since I posted a picture of Apollo. Here he is napping:
Day 1 of sort of vaca, which is part medical leave, part regular days off and part just wanting some time off. There was a brief moment this afternoon when I thought I'd just curl up on the couch and nap while Roddick made his way to the Round of 16 at the Open. But I fought it off and went in search of a gas station that does state inspections so I could mark that off my to-do list. And I put it off to the last minute and it's now September so my current sticker is expired. Eek! The first station didn't do inspections. The second location only does them on the last Saturday of the month. The gas station that usually has the long line of cars looked promising with only two cars, until I read the sign on the last car -- "Last car today." Sigh. Looks like I'll be illegal until Tuesday.
Since I was out, I thought I'd search for some plants for the front porch. Two of our hanging plants left this world during our Cali trip and now the porch looks bare. But the Home Depot trip was a bust so I did the next best thing by going to Cold Stone Creamery to pick up a quart of Chocolate Devotion. I had to make my trip out pay off, right?
When I got home, I noticed that not only did the porch still look bare, but the weeds I had been assiduously ignoring had grown beyond the point of ignoring, especially the tall tree by the side door with its large green leaves that threatened to whack me whenever I went into the house. Maybe this why I've been going through the front door lately. I put the ice cream away, got out the shears and went to town. Now the front and side of the house look neat and tidy. But I want more than neat and tidy. I want pretty plants and an inviting walkway to match the pretty porch swing (see below). So tomorrow after my monitoring appointment we'll be stopping by the local nursery to pick up a few things.
The
U.S. Open comes at a great time and is providing a nice distraction for one of my IVF injections. Even though I haven't felt the full sting of the Repronex, I still inject it sloowwwlllly, as suggested. Magazines are okay, but with the Open, I can sit back, watch a game, inject some more, watch another game, etc. Sweet! I mentioned in
ropo's journal that Sharapova was upset today in the third round by 30th-seed Agnieszka Radwanska. But in the post-interview, she had a nice comment:
It's disappointment. There's no happiness, I'll tell you that. I mean, look, at the end of the day it really is a just tennis match. You know, some days you win and some days you lose. Some days you lose in the finals and some days you lose in the third round and some days you lose in the first round.
More distraction comes Wednesday when
WSCN begins to broadcast the gymnastics World Championships. We'll see if I get up at the crazy hour of 8 to watch.
